It is what you make it

Marketing Associate (Former Employee) Lubbock, TX

ProsFreedom of planning your day, enjoy visiting with customers, opportunity to gain new friends and grow business with new customers

ConsGetting the help you need from the corporate office such as for supply purchases or special order items, new computer system disaster

Advice to Senior ManagementBe more positive and encouraging. Everything doesn't have to be done yesterday and if all the sales team does is do paperwork and reports they won't be making sales

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend

It has a typical food service industry atmosphere.

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee) Houston, TX

ProsWork/Life balance, Managers are fairly easy going with time offs and work from home options

ConsPay scale is below market standards, located at the energy capital of the world, they are really behind on pay and perks
For someone looking for personal growth at a fast pace, Sysco is not the place to be at.

Advice to Senior ManagementWakeup from the typical old schooled mentality of promoting from within and getting away with low pay.

There were people I worked under who never wanted me to be hired from the beginning.

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee) Houston, TX

ProsSome Sysco facilities and departments are very good to their employees and their customers, but that was not necessarily the case within the payroll dept. at the Corporate office.

ConsThere were some major changes taking place at the Corporate office in the payroll department that greatly affected the field locations and many were not happy about the changes, therefore it put unnecessary burdens on the employees within the payroll dept that we had no control over.

Advice to Senior ManagementBuild your employees self esteem and praise them for their accomplishments. Show them the loyalty that you want and expect in return.

Hard work, Sale Deadlines hard to obtain, Always changing

Marketing Associate (Former Employee) San Antonio, TX

ProsGreat people, job keeps you on your toes

ConsHard job to keep up with sales quotes during a recession where restaurants are trying to save money. The management has very high expectations for Marketing Associates and are very micro managerial. For being in a sales position, they treat you like children.

Advice to Senior ManagementCare more about your Marketing Associates. They are the back bone of this organization and times are tough.
