    Pros

Top tries to make a good environment; however, middle management lacks interpersonal and leadership skills

    Cons

Want to promote Aggies that are not doing even average quality work. Hires minorities that can hardly speak English. Need to concentrate on better hiring practices in the Accounting area.

I have been working at SYSCO Food Services of Houston full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Great co-workers and peers. Decent training at the coorporate level but stops there. Too many employees hired rough around the edges will create a bad reputation in the market.

    Cons

Upper management cannot identify talent among the group. Direct supervisors have too much pressure on them about the unimportant issues and are not shown how to finesse their employees into successful habbits.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Put more time into your employees that are worth the time because they will make money for the company

I worked at SYSCO Food Services of Houston full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Freedom of planning your day, enjoy visiting with customers, opportunity to gain new friends and grow business with new customers

    Cons

Getting the help you need from the corporate office such as for supply purchases or special order items, new computer system disaster

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be more positive and encouraging. Everything doesn't have to be done yesterday and if all the sales team does is do paperwork and reports they won't be making sales

I have been working at SYSCO Food Services of Houston

    Pros

Work/Life balance, Managers are fairly easy going with time offs and work from home options

    Cons

Pay scale is below market standards, located at the energy capital of the world, they are really behind on pay and perks
For someone looking for personal growth at a fast pace, Sysco is not the place to be at.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Wakeup from the typical old schooled mentality of promoting from within and getting away with low pay.

I worked at SYSCO Food Services of Houston

    Pros

Some Sysco facilities and departments are very good to their employees and their customers, but that was not necessarily the case within the payroll dept. at the Corporate office.

    Cons

There were some major changes taking place at the Corporate office in the payroll department that greatly affected the field locations and many were not happy about the changes, therefore it put unnecessary burdens on the employees within the payroll dept that we had no control over.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Build your employees self esteem and praise them for their accomplishments. Show them the loyalty that you want and expect in return.

I worked at SYSCO Food Services of Houston

    Pros

Great people, job keeps you on your toes

    Cons

Hard job to keep up with sales quotes during a recession where restaurants are trying to save money. The management has very high expectations for Marketing Associates and are very micro managerial. For being in a sales position, they treat you like children.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Care more about your Marketing Associates. They are the back bone of this organization and times are tough.
