Great while it lasted

Database Developer (Former Employee)

I worked at Sabre full-time for more than a year

ProsI was able to work from home, I worked with developers all over the world, and had some fun and challenging projects. My manager allowed me to have flexibility and I was empowered.

ConsMy manager was always busy, not concerned with my career path, or grooming anyone for the next level. Even upper level managers are doing real hands on work in development, because everyone is overbooked. Layoffs are always looming.

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

Working at sabre

Project Manager (Current Employee)
Montevideo (Uruguay)

I have been working at Sabre full-time for more than 5 years

ProsSabre provides great growth opportunities and a highly organised work environment . It allows the employees to gain experience in different fields, create huge networks and learn from peers.

ConsThe amount of hours dedicated each day is the only detail I would point out because eventhough you can maintain balance between life and work, the long hours are sometimes a challenge.

Good Company with Declining Prospects

Corporate Staff Group (Management) (Former Employee)
Southlake, TX

I worked at Sabre full-time for more than 10 years

Pros- Challenging work given to enthusiastic and energetic employees.
- Talent here is above average and you will work with some intelligent people.
- Dynamic industry with a lot of issues requiring the latest technology that will keep you current and marketable
- Good culture (new leadership likely to change this)
- An historically stable GDS business

Cons- If you work in Finance then you are unlikely to have a great work/life balance and will be amazed at how little work those in the business actually do (not all but the contrast is stark)
- Many of the Business staff are stale and stagnant
- Senior leadership and business unit leadership are lacking a coherent strategy
- Travelocity (dwindling relevance)
- lastminute.com (irrelevant now and the biggest mistake Sabre ever made was acquiring this asset)
- Amadeus is a good competitor and is far more hungry than Sabre and will eat into their GDS and Airline Solutions business over time.
- Pay is good but not great

Advice to Senior ManagementAct urgently to prevent Amadeus from taking share and acknowledge the very real threat. Divest all of Travelocity as it is a distraction and rid yourself of lastminute.com at all costs.

There are reasons why some of us have been with Sabre long time

Principal (Current Employee)
Southlake, TX

I have been working at Sabre full-time for more than 10 years

ProsSabre has provided me with a variety of challenging positions over the years and this has enabled me to have a diverse skill set. It is a global company with a wide range of opportunities and seems to be well positioned to continue being a leader in the travel industry.

ConsThe recent layoffs have definitely dampened some spirits and I think it has people on edge as they don't know what to expect. The layoffs seemed to focus on employees who work remote or tend to work from home more often, which seems a little odd given that Sabre claims to be a green company using leading edge technologies. To an extent I think the remote employees have fallen out of favor because there is room for improvement in the communication between the different business units and it might be deemed a quick fix to have more people in the office more often.

Advice to Senior ManagementWe still tend to work in silos and our internal communication is not very good at times, even within organizations. There also seems to be this mindset that the core technical and functional skills of legacy Sabre don't matter as much, and that may be true someday but we are not there yet.
