I worked at Sabre full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Smart, talented work force. Excellent challenges in travel technology. Some groups - typically those that are directly delivering to clients, are dynamic and motivated. Great cafeteria.

    Cons

Fear-based leadership. Internal obsession with "optics" and the perception that a project is always awash in a green and go to go status, until it suddenly isn't and then the person who raises risk is challenged to prove it. Extremely uneven expectations, evaluations and abilities especially among mid-senior leadership. Heavy reliance on poor communication methods (email threads). Managers are counseled that one method to handle difficult or awkward emails is by simply not responding.

    Advice to Management

Instead of carving out a new and entrepreneurial identity and building talent (that means mistakes can be made and even encourage), Sabre seems to be morphing into a work culture with some of the worst features of AA and HP.

I have been working at Sabre full-time

    Pros

The company is growing and business is booming

    Cons

Inadequate management direction causing multiple overlapping 'must haves' without the consideration if the deliverables are realistic. When concern is raised, its too late because everyone has already moved on to discuss how the next 'opportunity' can be delivered, while failing to see all other previous commitments through.

    Advice to Management

Stop the madness and get a prescription for organizational Ritalin.

    Cons

Too many people doing ultimately the same thing.

I worked at Sabre full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

If you work hard you will be recognized and compensated. Great people and Management

    Cons

Benefits could be better such as medical and family leave. If you want to spend lots of quality time with family expectations of management are high and such you will spend more time at work. Working from home/remotely is not a favorite discussion with management!

    Advice to Management

Be more understanding on family time and be more flexible in allowing to work from home/remotely

I have been working at Sabre full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Nice culture which breeds nice people to work with as a rule. Diverse business with opportunities in many areas of the business.

    Cons

No cost of living raises. If you're at a ceiling, you'll lose money every year you work for Sabre.

    Advice to Management

I haven't had a raise in 7 years. Rounding to a 2% per year inflation, I'm making 14% less than when Sabre hired me. Loyalty to Sabre shouldn't come at such a high price.

    Pros

Flexibility, but also requires you to be flexible on your evening and weekends.

    Cons

Mass hirings follow mass layoffs. Expanding India offices. Hard to get funding or people for what you need to get done.

I worked at Sabre full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Shift, the pay and the benefits are pretty good for the local average. HR is good. My area had awesome shifts, but it's known to be an issue.

    Cons

Management is poor. Growth opportunities (at least in MVD) are based on who you know, not at all on your skills or whether you deserve it or not. Not much career path unless the manager wants you there (if they have someone else in mind, forget it).

    Advice to Management

Fire someone if they don't work, doesn't help employees morale to know that someone who doesn't work still gets paid as much as you and does nothing. And stop basing career moves on whether you like someone or not. Supervisors are pretty bad in AS.
