I worked at Saddle Creek Logistics Services full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

I joined the company after graduating from a SCM program to gather broad experience as a front line leader before transition into analytic work. This program provided just that. WIDE exposure to many departments in different cities. Great for perspective on office culture, labor force, and politics.

Pay was slightly below some competitors in the same space, but benefits and vacation were good and the training program was closer to that of a large company like Pepsi or Unilever that are know as quality training environments for new grads while still maintaining a small company feel.

    Weathered 2008 with no layoffs.

Attainable bonus program if not a joke bonus program.

    Cons

Open ended relocation requirements. You'll be asked to provide preferences but it may not work out. This wasn't a big deal to me but beware if you are picky.

The transportation department at the time was far inferior to warehouse, contract packaging, and retail/consumer distribution. Likely just making due to the current driver climate and absurd rates in the overall industry.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Increase your bonus potential and increase the difficulty of attaining. Talent is spread throughout the country that is going unchallenged. Other buildings were in trouble but not enough incentive to fix it.

    Pros

Great cultural. Good sized company but still a family type atmosphere. Compensation and Benefits are competitive. Seems to provide some opportunity for career growth both with provided training and new job opportunities. Growth is looking very promising.

    Cons

Benefit costs for those with dependents is tough.

I worked at Saddle Creek Logistics Services full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Each department is like it's own company, so you can hate doing one thing but enjoy working with a different account. Most or the people working with you want to see you succeed, so they offer great advice and help you out when you need it.

    Cons

Be prepared to work on the front lines and long hours. In the interview process they never tell you about working weekends and nights, or even working on the warehouse floor, forklifts, dispatch, but when you get there be ready to work any and all the time.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be more up front about he position in the interview process. Don't make it out to be perfect - you won't be working in A/C from 8-5 everyday. You will be on the front lines all day, and when you go home be prepared to get phone calls from drivers all night long.

    Pros

There are no pros that I can think of.

    Cons

Christmas party is rigged to where all higher ups get prizes. Health benefits are awful. If you don't kiss butt you won't go any where.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Start thinking outside the family. Get better health benefits for employees. Drop the 'Good 'ol Boy' mentality.

    Pros

Going home after work.Great place to work if you like disorganization.

    Cons

Will lie to you at every turn.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Pros

Friendly associates. Workplace was comfortable and enjoyable.

    Cons

Leadership is not in touch with associates as much as the HR lip service likes to think they are. Nepotism is rampant. Very political work area in corporate office. Lots of conflict between married or dating associates as well as a HR department hugely afraid of unions.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to the associates more without going through the HR department. Get rid of all nepotism in the company as it just creates stress and discontent. Live those values we hear so much about! Make them your own rather then playing lip service to Mr Lyons.

    Pros

Small company where you can make a name for yourself. Growing company that has many jobs to choose from if you're willing to take initiative.

    Cons

Not always about the work you do but if your managers like you or not.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice
