Pros
Pretty steady work people need to eat
Cons
Management doesn't appreciate it employees make no attempt to keep exsisting employees, hard to advance make better money elsewhere, will fire long time employees over W.I.C. Violations this is something they have recently implimemted, more of a hostil work inviroment , have to walk on egg shells.
Advice to Senior Management
Stop firing employees for W.I.C violations, be more receptive to your employees, pay what we are worth, after all we at store level are the ones that make u that sit behind your desk the money.
Pros
Benefits, people, customer service, employees
Cons
poor pay for the amount of work your expected to do
they continualy preach about work family life but they expect you to work so much its not possible
Advice to Senior Management
either pays us more for the work we do or dont expect us to continually work 14 hr shifts 7 days a week
Pros
Being able to request time off, the benifets.
Cons
Working here, management sucks. Feels like high school working here.
Advice to Senior Management
Be smart
Pros
* Benefits (when you work long enough to get them)
Cons
* Low Wage
* Amount of Hours per week not stable (minimum guaranteed is 16 for Courtesy Clerks [baggers] and 24 for Food Clerks [checkers])
* Once you've maxed out in wages (which now takes more than 4 years at part-time to full-time), there is no room for growth in the company, unless you move out of the union to store management or corporate.
Pros
I think that the best reason for working at safeway is the nice co-workers that you could have a chance to work with. I like the amptmoosphere that i am able to work in because it suited me the best.
Cons
I cant really say there was a downside, i mean evry jobn has its ups and downs. Overall i think that the pay could of been a little beter.
Advice to Senior Management
I think that the people of safeway could do a better job at watching the manegment at the store such as checking in with the store to ake sure that it make its daily meetings.
Pros
Very fiexable about working schdule
Employees are very close to one another
Pay was okay
Good if you are in a union position
Cons
Hours were bad
Health benefits were bad
Upper management is poorly picked
Micomangment is very popular in stores
Store Managers are dumber then door nails
Advice to Senior Management
Move into the current generation
Stop with old school buddy buddy butt kisser and look at you emloyees who are harding working and treat them better
Pros
few and far between. Used to be a great company to work for and you were proud to tell people you worked for Safeway. Now I am ashamed of the conditions of the stores, carts and quality of the food
Cons
Back stage personnel work 8-5 with 3 days weekends, so support for store level employees that work all holidays, weekends with little or no regard to families. Upper management will demand that store management work holidays with little or no notice regardless of plans that may have been made. Threats and intimidation are the normal course of communication from upper management. A true hell! Young kids are becoming store managers with little or no experience. They call in sick so they can have their birthdays off take hours from the departments scheudles so they make the extermely tough requirements of grocery map. Won't hire needed help so they can save money and try to make a bounus.
Advice to Senior Management
Get back in touch with your retail level employees and stop treating people as if they are not human
Pros
They still offer benefits. Although most are reduced from years past. Good company infrastructure. Could be a great company someday.
Cons
Unbelievably top heavy in Corporate. Stodgy. Ads poorly conceived, worried about shrink. Afraid to really innovate. Treats employees like disposable.
Advice to Senior Management
Value your employees. Repeat.... No raises in two of the last 3 years??? Stores are run too thin on labor.
Pros
The people who you work along with makes the shift enjoyable.
It is a good thing to have a union for the work as well as minimum hours.
Cons
Inconsistent scheduling of covers, having need to deal with angry customers who complained about not opening on time. Not listening to employee inputs or suggestions to better the work environment.
Advice to Senior Management
Field Merchandiser/Management/ Store management needs to understand their employees better instead of setting very ideal goals and left the clerks to figure it out, should work with them and make it positive.
Pros
The health benifits are good.
Cons
Just about everything else. My manager screwed me over when it came time for me to tranfer to a store closer to my house. She waited 2 weeks to sign thew paper work. And the store that had a place for me filled the position.
