    Pros

500 Fortune Company, great benefits, health programs always in place to keep us at our best, big family environment, great company to grow in with many areas to move to in order to learn the different aspects on the business.

    Cons

Not a lot of recognition for the grand majority about successful projects completed.

    Advice to Management

Pay closer attention to the positive as you do with the negative

    Pros

Recently acquired by Albertsons and is poised for growth as a larger organization.

    Cons

Working through integration of systems, processes and culture will take time.

    Pros

Good for Albertsons/Cerrabus to own more retail grocery.

    Cons

Same old grocery retail people in place. It's unfortunate they don't want a new look or opinion from anyone new. They keep the old guard in place and promote them.

    Advice to Management

Not much, they won't accept opinions

    Pros

Great people and fun staff to work with. They give you the tools to use to be effective.

    Cons

Once the merger happened everything went down hill fast. They dumped their military program and stopped recruiting veterans. Started treating tenured employees like they were disposable and removed all the key leaders that made Safeway a leader in the industry.

    Pros

    Great co-workers (loved my team)
    Diverse age of employees
    Flexible work hours

    Cons

    Very old-school, conservative environment
    No contribution/match for 401k
Upper management only look out for themselves
    Slim to none career growth

    Advice to Management

Management should really appreciate their employees, as they are the ones doing the nitty gritty work at the end of day. They should also take time to consider everyone's strengths and goals so they can hire/promote the right people. Maybe then they wouldn't be scrambling to keep or re-hire people that they recently laid off.

    Pros

It was a family friendly company; they at least tried for work-life balance, promoted health and fitness, diversity, gender equality, sustainability, green solutions, and so on. That's all changed since the corporate merger.

    Cons

Since the merger it has become a lean, travel-heavy environment. If you're comfortable with 50-75% travel, the newly merged company may be a good fit for you.

    Pros

The company culture promoted self development and work life balance. Diverse leadership (pre-merger)

    Cons

Safeway was bought by a group of investors and made private. It was merged with Albertsons, which the investment group owned as well, and the merger was handled poorly. It felt like the investors were trying to make a quick buck and now the rumor is that the company is slated for an IPO. Post-merger the diversity of company leadership became.. limited

    Pros

Used to be a good stable place to work. Good people to work with and growth potential. I worked for Safeway a long time it is sad to watch it get dismantled.

    Cons

After the merger no one is safe. Most of the experienced and knowledgeable employees are gone. If they are not leaving for a new job its layoffs.

    Advice to Management

Albertsons failed, now Safeway is on the same business track. Not smart Cerberus.
