Pros
You get great benefits in comparison to other companies out there but the pay starts off and ends low from other companies.
Cons
Just like any other job, low pay low hours but expect triple the amount of work to be done at all times
Advice to Senior Management
pay the employees better and stop cutting hours but promoting yourself to be employee friendly and act like you care.
Pros
Ability to make your own work schedule
Cons
Much extra work added to the already heavy work load.
Advice to Senior Management
Replace employees that have left, much quicker.
Pros
Great Health Benefits, opportunities for advancement, plenty of face to face interaction, works well if you want to work evenings to avoid paying for child care. Managers are usually very good!
Cons
Work nights and every weekend after 12 years, Only $1.00 raise after 12 years of Service, Work all holidays and not allowed to take vacations during these weeks. Must take vacations 1 week at a time, can't take a day here and there, hours are super tight so you are expected to do the work of 2 or 3 people. Great benefits but it takes 6 months to get them, earn 1 week of vacation after 1 year of service. Safeway has a sink or swim attitude due to lack of hours, always cutting costs so you have to bring your own supplies to work. Pens, tape, calculator, etc.
Advice to Senior Management
All the cutting of hours really causes the employees to stressed out and unable to fulfill job requirements. Safeway has very high expectations and I think that is great but put an employee in an environment where they can flourish with plenty of training (not just on a computer). Stop cutting costs when you are having extraordinary profits. Let the employees know where we stand as a company, not struggling but a fortune 500 or better. Give the store enough hours to stock the shelves not have 150 OOS be the goal, that's too many.
Pros
safeway has one of the best compensation package. the pay rate is good and the benefit is great, union benefit . you get a fixed start time with safeway , if you start at 2pm , you will always clock in at 2pm , you will put in 12 to 14 hours depending upon the runs.
Cons
safeway is mostly for people who are single or your kids are grown up. you will NOT get weekends off ..... until you have worked there for at least 9 to 10 years. its not easy to take time off here , if request for a sunday off - denied. call in sick you get points , 1 day equals 8 points , get 22 points get written up , 30 points , bye bye .
safeway has put in a system where they turned truck drivers into puppets or robots. it used to be good working for them , but since 2009 or so it has gone south. now its like walking a tight rope , drivers are dime a dozen.
Advice to Senior Management
change the stupid system. weekend work should be premium pay , people who want to weekends will , and those who dont want premium pay wont. every bid should be like that.
Pros
Good people, good team and great atmosphere.
Cons
Hours can be long and compensation may not begin at what most people expect, but this is great experience
Pros
Great opportunity for advancement, ability to work in a team environment, can easily transfer if desired. I would recommend this position for those seeking this type of opportunity.
Cons
Just the fact that working in retail causes you to work nights, weekends and holidays. However the pros certainly out weigh the cons.
Advice to Senior Management
Ensure that we are getting the necessary feedback from our front-line associates on what improvements can be made at the store level.
Pros
customer service is great, has a deli, bakery, floral and pharmacy that meets customer needs and goes above and beyond
Cons
the new contract is not as great. more hours needed to work to get raises and medical benefits are just ok
Pros
Organized, clean and good atmosphere. Management is good about working with your schedule in regards to school or church. Many different departments allow you to explore which area of the store you work best in.
Cons
This company's corporate suits have terrible communication and understanding of how the stores are run and what they need. Equipment is rarely replaced when needed. Stores rarely have enough available hours to properly run their departments efficiently.
Advice to Senior Management
Get more in touch with your employees, ask for feedback and thoughts on new marketing strategies, schematic implementations, and new corporate programs.
Pros
They pay you at least minimum wage
Cons
It's boring and you aren't exactly going to run the place any time soon
Advice to Senior Management
I bagged your groceries
Pros
Pretty steady work people need to eat
Cons
Management doesn't appreciate it employees make no attempt to keep exsisting employees, hard to advance make better money elsewhere, will fire long time employees over W.I.C. Violations this is something they have recently implimemted, more of a hostil work inviroment , have to walk on egg shells.
Advice to Senior Management
Stop firing employees for W.I.C violations, be more receptive to your employees, pay what we are worth, after all we at store level are the ones that make u that sit behind your desk the money.
