I have been working at Safeway part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Flexible scheduling, you learn a lot, hands on work, SOME nice employees & customers, weekly pay, union, job security.

    Cons

If you're new they will keep you right under 20 hours just so you don't get benefits, managers are angry and fed up with their jobs and take it out on new employees.

    Advice to Management

Realize that not everyone has worked there for as long as you and you need to be more patient and understanding with your newer employees. Also, keep your anger under control and stop flashing at work, appreciate employees hard work.

I have been working at Safeway part-time

    Pros

Pay increases are automatic depending on hours worked. Benefits after a year at little cost to you. Easy to get training in multiple departments if desired. Most positions at the store level are union.

    Cons

Once you reach the wage cap for your position there are no more raises unless they are negotiated with the next union contract. With most store level positions you are not allowed to work full time.

    Advice to Management

Genuinely recognize the people who do a great job and are passionate about their work. Support co-workers who are being harassed by customers.

I worked at Safeway full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Exposure to large corporate experience. Company was very stable, if that's what you prefer, but with buyout recently that may not be the case depending upon new ownership.

    Cons

Short-term focus on bottom line at expense of customer and long term viability of company. Organization stated values are not emphasized in day to day activity. Incongruency.

    Advice to Management

I have been working at Safeway part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

All members of the staff were really welcoming and helpful. There was lots of thinking on your feet and customer service training. Also, extra food. Yum ^-^

    Cons

Schedules on a weekly basis. Very hard to make plans. Management forgets that you've taken time off and schedules you anyway. Too many people in one department to make decent money.

    Advice to Management

Two-week schedules would be nice. Answer the phone. Don't over-hire. Don't stretch other departments too thin when some have a surplus of employees.

    Pros

Amazing people to work with. I'm giving 120% with the hope of a long and bright future.

    Cons

Very little training, a lot of responsibility for $9. Pre hour. Some coworkers are cut throat and will do their utmost to push you out to try and increase their hours....

    Advice to Management

I have great management at my location....however they do have their favorites.....be careful that's a slippery slope.......
