    Pros

Company just switched over to albertsons management.. Seems like prices rised and quality went down. They will hire anyone with a pulse to manage their stores, way to many politics

    Cons

Management is overworked for the pay.. The jump from 1st assistant to store manager is entirely to big, they need to pay their assistants more and they will get quality management

    Advice to Management

Get paid more and you will get quality people. Period end of discussion. Safeway was a good company in the 90's but other than that they have gone down hill

As a member of management you receive a steady pay check.

    Cons

Work 10 1/2 hours a day sometimes 6 and 7 days a week really takes a toll on your body.p

    Advice to Management

You work to live not live for work....need a life balance.

    Pros

Understanding management, worked with high school schedule and if there was some extracurricular activity they would always work with me provided proper notice. Co-workers were great to work with, made the low-skill job bearable.

    Cons

Low-pay, the "safety measures" for courtesy clerks are a little silly, but I understand you just want to avoid being sued and what not.

    Pros

There is always open positions available in store to move up to or see where your skills can be utilized the most....must be very proactive and speak directly to the store mgr if you have questions or concerns. alot of different supervisors around the clock and sometimes each person will give out different rules or projects leaving you feeling like a chicken with your head cut off at times on busy days,...best way in all jobs is to communicate with all whom u work with and are supervising you in an adult manner. nice to get paid every week

    Cons

not a lot of employee perks...have to buy all your own pieces of wardrobe for the uniform. store should provide that since they are a huge chain of billionaire locations.... hopefully they can raise the bar n pay higher than min wage for their hard working butt busting courtesy clerks!

    Advice to Management

move up ppl with talent and if you tell them they may have an opportunity to move up plz follow thru.

    Pros

Good benefits. Flexible work schedule when you're in school.

    Cons

Rigid about customer service process. You can be the most helpful employee in the world, but if you don't work off their script you'll face disciplinary actions. Mandatory suggestive selling and sampling is considered "customer service" and must be part of every customer interaction on the floor, which comes across as fake or forced to customers.

Also stores are often understaffed, so food clerks from other departments are pulled away from their work when there's a crunch or during non-peak times. Makes it hard to complete mandatory tasks like stocking, facing, and closing when you're stuck at the register for hours.

Finally, you probably won't be challenged here and your hard work will most likely go unrecognized. It really depends on each store's management. If you need these things to have job satisfaction then I wouldn't suggest working here.

    Advice to Management

Allow more leeway in the customer service script. I understand there needs to be a minimum level of service for employees that don't care about their job, but some employees do care and give genuine assistance to customers without a script.

There's less room to build a lasting relationship with repeat customers, which will ultimately build trust and promote repeat visits vs carpet bombing every person that enters the store with artificial customer service.

    Pros

There were opportunities to cross train and advance within company. Plenty of jobs were available to those who wanted to grow with the company.

    Cons

With merger and decentralization, many long time employees (25+ years) were let go even though they had years of experience, but I guess the company strategy is moving in a different direction and the current thinking isn't cutting it.
