Content, but constant threat of lay-offs

Marketing Manager (Current Employee)
Lawrenceville, GA

I have been working at Sage North America full-time for more than a year

ProsFriendly atmosphere, some smart people. All the basic benefits of a large company.

ConsSage does not share financials with employees, so it seems to make decisions without looking at financial data. There are small lay-offs at mid-management and staff levels all through the year. Every so often an email announcement says that yet another executive has left to "pursue other interests."

Advice to Senior ManagementHave loss tolerance for employees who are doing no work, and keep employees who are knowledgeable even if they are getting paid more than average.

Pathetic company with zero vision

Marketing Manager (Current Employee)
Lawrenceville, GA

I have been working at Sage North America full-time for more than 5 years

ProsNice building. Semi clean rest rooms.

ConsLayoffs twice a year. Mass exit of true leaders over the past 6 months. Everyone with common sense is looking outside for a new job. Market share went from 8% to 3% over the past few years. The company is surviving off of double billing the customer base.

Advice to Senior ManagementEnjoy it now because the ship is sinking.

It's been a roller coaster ride.

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

I have been working at Sage North America

ProsLarge company with a lot of people that are fun to work with. Good work environment with good balance with family time.

ConsCompany has too many knee-jerk reactions that translate into undesirable impacts on employee salary and benefits. Long term employees are undervalued and product expertise is lost as they leave and are replaced by low level (and cheaper) developers. The remaining experienced developers are then expected to train the new developers while maintaining the same productivity and quality.

Advice to Senior ManagementStop punishing your satisfied employees when trying to please the unhappy ones.

Great people, flexible schedules, lack of innovation or company vision

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
Lawrenceville, GA

I have been working at Sage North America

ProsThe people are great to work with. We generally have what we need in order to get the job done. In certain departments, the hours are very flexible and working from home occasionally is permitted.
The healthcare and other benefits are very good.

ConsSage buys existing products, most of which are NOT the market leader, and then maintains them. They do this with little strategy with respect to the Sage product portfolio. That is, they buy products that compete with each other! Sage is full of smart people who know how to build new products, but Sage is not committed to creating new products. They wait until a market has exploded before taking it seriously, which means we can never get ahead and do anything innovative. Leadership is not willing to invest in things that will benefit the company in the long term. They are only concerned with short-term growth. They give lip service to "organic growth" (growing existing products), but they aren't serious about it.

Advice to Senior ManagementCompensate upper management based on long-term goals, not year over year results.

Great Company

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
Lawrenceville, GA

I have been working at Sage North America

ProsA positive work environment that empowers its employees. The people are fun to be around and driven for success. They have created an environment for EXCEPTIONAL CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE both externally and internally.

ConsWithin the sales environment the desire is for more consultative selling however the demand to produce a specific amount daily doesn't warrant that approach. The sales structure dictates more of a transactional approach.

Advice to Senior ManagementTry to listen to the employees who are in the trenches and understand what is a realistic vs. a unrealistic expectation.

Abysmal Management in PT Support/Sales

Runt (Former Employee)
Lawrenceville, GA

I worked at Sage North America

Prosoutstanding benefits!!
good work/life company (plenty of vacation and encouraged to use)
at front line level, friendly people who truly care about serving customer and doing a good job.

Conspart-time managers in support
unethical sales leadership, just unbelievable how some get there and stay there...
treat people with little respect
leadership tends to c.y.a., throwing their subordinates under bus to cover up for own inadequacies

Advice to Senior Managementi don't care really, keep doing what you're doing!!!

They are very sneaky; common for layoffs especially 2 times a year.

Proslittle Management Supervision in some departments. Pretty quiet.

ConsSAP is coming! SAP is coming! Basically, they are doing a new ERP implementation and getting rid of good folks.

Advice to Senior ManagementTrain the people that are there on the new incoming technology. They are loyal and have put up with a lot of secrecy.
