I have been working at Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Family-like atmosphere, faith-based care, administration engaged, and both employees and patients are valued. Stability is great.

    Cons

In some non-clinical areas, there can be a lack of advancement opportunities. Work-life balance is sometimes questionable.

    Advice to Management

Keep it up! The way that management has engaged employees by being personally available is commendable.

I have been working at Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Honestly I only stay because pay us better than any other job in the area would pay for a customer service type job. Benefits are pretty good.

    Cons

Too much work for staff to handle. Managers would rather have you quit and replace you with another desperate person than to spend the money to hire extra help. No consistency with training and each clinic has different guidelines. Managers are micro managers and have NO idea how to work a front office. They target who they want to get rid of and do whatever sneaky behavior they can to fire them. HR is useless. There is no one to turn to if you have a complaint or concern.

    Advice to Management

Get a clue! Your clinic managers are idiots! They could not check in a patient or handle a busy phone day if their life depended on it! Need to open communication with no fear of retaliation. Workers should have an opportunity to review their managers.

  3. Mixed Feelings

    Pros

Plenty of work, OT available, convenient locations of clinics throughout the treasure valley, variety of specialties, easy to transfer position within St Als, days go by fast!

    Cons

So many different EHR/EMR to learn! No protocols=cannot use your (brain!) trained skills, low staff vs patient load, "unlicensed" staff gets treated like the kids (CMA, techs, etc.) by "licensed staff (RNs). Most clinic managers don't have a medical background and absolutely no clue about back office flow and what the staff actually does. Being "fully staffed" means nothing if there are not enough clinical staff to comfortably handle patient load. Every clinic has different processes.

    Advice to Management

Management of all levels need to shadow clinical staff if they seem overwhelmed or not happy with their position. The cause is likely the monotony of broken processes or frustration with inconsistency of duties/expectations between staff/providers within the same clinic. There is also quite a concern with personal opinions coming from rooming staff and providers that is verbalized, that sometimes greatly effects the care a patient receives from the provider. It is not the staffs job, nor is it professional or ethical to express personal opinion on a patients mood, level of distress or if they are "faking it." It is incredible how a differently a patient is treated and the care they receive if the rooming staff expresses their personal opinion on the patients demeanor and it is not in favor of the patient. This level of unprofessionalism coming from both levels of staff is something I am not interested in being associated with.

    Pros

Values driven, patient centered and mission oriented. Fun, caring employees who truly care for each other and the work they do.

    Cons

There are pockets of poor management. These leaders don't embrace change and are allowed to stay negative instead of working on being positive or offering solutions.
