I have been working at Saint Francis Health System full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Very flexible. Great culture. People are fun to be around and work with. Moving in the right direction as far as technology.

    Cons

Only allowed to take whole days for vacation. No 1/2 days. Not allowed to work from home on inclement weather days. Progress has been made but still need to work on upgrading the organizational technology.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Change from a 20th century mindset and move to the 21st century.. Senior management needs to be more visible to employees.

I have been working at Saint Francis Health System full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

    401k benefit generous.

    Cons

Double standards and follow through with promises. Employees not treated well, especially ones who have been there many years.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Instead of giving new nurses $10,000 sign on bonuses, the nurses who have been there 10 + years should get them. You can't replace experience off the street. There wouldn't be such a high turnover rate. Most new nurses fulfill their contract and then they're out of there. Back 15+ years ago we did the "fish philosophy" and it was fun to work there. Now it's just a job and a paycheck. Good thing most nurses love what they're doing.

I worked at Saint Francis Health System full-time for more than a year

    Pros

This is a large hospital so a person is exposed to a lot of different situations & areas so you can get a better idea of where they want their career to go.

    Cons

The large size of the hospital has the downside of employees being lost in the crowd so advancement can be a challenge. I took an entry level job as a patient transporter to get my foot in the door. 3 months after taking the job I graduated with my bachelors degree from a nearby college. After over 1 1/2 years of trying to move into the business office, I eventually moved on to a different hospital.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take notice of employees who are capable & who have a desire to advance.

I have been working at Saint Francis Health System full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Company paid continuing education, PTO, ESL, company contributes to 401k

    Cons

Management is really lacking and communication is a disaster, at least in my department. Politics are some of the worst I've seen. Have to request a day off 2 months in advance.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Communicate better with your staff and be more professional.

I have been working at Saint Francis Health System full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Patient focused care, financially sound, has delivered bonuses to employees every year I've been employed (since 2006)

    Cons

Tends to be rigid and set in ways with certain policies, could do more to recognize employees contributions, medical benefits are not great

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Your employees are the lifeblood of this company. To retain top talent, I'd recommend being competitive with salaries, improving the current offering of medical benefits, and increasing the recognition of employee contributions.
