I have been working at Saint Leo University part-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

I worked at St. Leo as an adjunct for 14 years, the Director and Assistant director are genuine and care about the students. They also allow the adjunct professors to show how much they care by allowing them to write the curriculum

    Cons

I ran into a director who did not care just wanted a job. However she was later fired

    Pros

the coworkers are great and straight Monday to Friday schedule

    Cons

High stress, favoritism among management and certain employees

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I have been working at Saint Leo University full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Only if there's nowhere else to work

    Cons

You'll hear the word "values" a lot. That's what is it at SLU, just a word. There's one standard for the administration/executive, a different one for faculty, and yet another for the rest of the staff. Don't you dare speak your mind, even when they ask for your opinion. You'll be immediately doomed with no return. Most in the executive are too full of themselves to do a good job.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop your hypocritical ways. They are out of place in a university that calls itself Catholic.

Growing Problems Aren't Being Addressed in Center for Online Learning

I have been working at Saint Leo University as a contractor (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Online education is an exciting area of work with intrinsic rewards. For the most part, Saint Leo University's Center for Online Learning allows self-motivated instructors to be developers and pioneers in this rapidly evolving area. The work can be stimulating and exciting.

    Cons

Pay has never been increased since inception of COL (1999?) so what was once very good, is now mediocre.

Instructors are paid based on number of students in each class only. There is no pay differential (i.e., no recognition) for years of experience or performance.

Management does not conduct formal performance evaluations of individual adjunct instructors. Instructors do not know in any definitive way how well they are doing or what management thinks of their performance.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Tie pay to performance and length of service. Management should conduct formal annual performance evaluations of individual adjunct instructors. Management should create programs/locate opportunities for adjuncts to grow professionally and recognize individual adjuncts for completing/achieving professional goals.

    Pros

The staff was great to work with. I learned a lot while working for only a short time with the company.

    Cons

Parking on campus was terrible, even for staff and faculty. Had to make sure to get to work extra early so I was able to find a spot.

They were unethical in their pursuit of students.

I worked at Saint Leo University

    Pros

My co-workers were amazing. We really enjoyed working together and formed a mini-family. The university itself is beautiful but working in the department I did it was of campus in location and in beliefs.

    Cons

They recycled numbers to call potential students. It was to the point that if a potential student said remove their number from the call list, management wanted you to recycle the number to another representative. This is illegal and unethical. I can't believe a christian university allowed this to happen.

I worked at Saint Leo University part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Nice campus and low student teach ratio.

    Cons

They only hire adjuncts and few full time professors. This tells the seasoned professor that they are not worth the investment. Its a shame too because I really love working on the campus.
