I have been working at Saint Louis Zoo

I have been working at Saint Louis Zoo part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Being able to walk around the zoo during breaks is a great atmosphere. The coworkers are very helpful and friendly. It is very easy to make friendships.

    Cons

It is very difficult to advance higher in the company. Also, the pay is not very competitive compared to other companies.

I worked at Saint Louis Zoo part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Not over worked, a fairly loose and relaxing environment. A great place to meet a lot of cool people from all walks of life.

    Cons

Zero advancement chances, pennies for yearly raises, full time management does NOTHING. Hourly staff are the only people working and they get paid minimum wage.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The organization makes millions, the CEO earns more than $500,000 a year, Start paying your staff!

I worked at Saint Louis Zoo

    Pros

The St. Louis Zoo presents a wonderful work environment filled with friendly people who are willing to lend a hand. They allow flexibility in the work environment and management is generally friendly. On top of all that, you get to see some of the world's most exotic animals on a daily basis.

    Cons

The hours at the Zoo can be challenging. Shifts can start as early as 5 am and weekends and holidays are required (animals are a 24/7/365 ordeal). People frequently think they will get to play with animals, but in fact you only watch the animals. No close contact is allowed and people are fired for touching the animals (unless its in their job description).

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Senior management generally does a pretty good job of managing resources. The one aspect that can be frustrating is that sometimes management puts a premium on making money and not on animal welfare-for example summer concerts held at the zoo.

hidden agendas from most of staff

If you want to keep employees enthused and happy about working there, then start treating them all equally and be conscious of the way you talk to them
