I worked at Saint Xavier University full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

The benefits were good. Workers always seemed to have opportunities to learn what leadership was doing, from leadership in the form of meetings and timely communications.

    Cons

Pay was a little low, but that is to be somewhat expected in a non-profit Catholic organization such as Saint Xavier University.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep communicating to staff and faculty.

I have been working at Saint Xavier University as an intern

    Pros

You have a great support staff, at least from the faculty. In my department, they all genuinely care about you as a person and your success going forward. Additionally, the department to which I was assigned critiqued each other constructively and have a great system of checks and balances to ensure a quality instruction for students.

    Cons

It can be difficult to move up internally due to the longevity of most people. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, but can be slightly disheartening when trying to procure long-term employment.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If possible, have a streamlined process where interns can become employees, whether as adjuncts or staff. SXU is truly a wonderful place to forge a career.

    Pros

    The environment is friendly.
Helps build skills for other jobs.
    Very appreciative of student workers.
    Provides networking opportunities.
Many jobs allow you to work on homework during slow times.

    Cons

    Limited hours allowed to work.
    Can become tedious.
It is easy to forget to submit your work hours, and that annoys management very much.
Limited growth for salary and position.

I worked at Saint Xavier University full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Great students and co workers are what keep the majority of the staff here. The students really look to build relationships in order to be guided along in their college journey.

    Cons

Lack of leadership and institutional control. Current state of the institution does not allow for raises and there is zero opportunity for growth.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management need to re-evaluate what they have been doing and determine what will work out best in the future.

I have been working at Saint Xavier University full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

It's a diverse school, and the Chartwells company tries to implement good ideas.

    Cons

Working under Chartwells there is no room for growth, and management has a lot of unnecessary issues amongst each other. We are under-staffed so one person has to pick up the slack for shifts not being covered.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Open up more opportunities for growth with your employers.

I worked at Saint Xavier University as an intern (less than a year)

    Pros

Excellent faculty that really cares about their students and fellow instructors. They definitely make SXU a place to want to come back to upon graduation. Additionally, it is an excellent teaching university for future educators and nurses.

    Cons

It takes a long time to hear back from them in terms of the status of your employment candidacy.

I have been working at Saint Xavier University full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Saint Xavier University has a fun atmosphere, very lax, very nice people and good benefits. You can earn up to four weeks vacation time and it's not hard to get days off. One of the perks that make up for the low pay is that they cover 80% of your education for a master's degree and 100% for a bachelor's degree.

    Cons

Pay stinks, no raises or bonuses, no opportunity for advancement, the operation there is real shoddy. My recommendation is that you get in, gain some experience, get a master's degree and then get out.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Come up with policies and SLAs

Lot's of politics and departments that don't work well together all the time.

Improve internal communications and offer promotional opportunities to candidates you want to retain.
