Pros
If you have Saks on your resume, you can pretty much go anywhere else! It's a great place to set a foundation for your career.
Cons
Very hierarchical. At the assistant level, there is not much interaction with senior management.
Advice to Senior Management
Communication
Pros
Great brand, from a distance
Cons
Very biased company, to the point of reverse discrimination, i.e., if you are straight, you will go nowhere.
Advice to Senior Management
Be open and communicative. The biases you display are noticed by all associates and are talked about. Does not reflect well on those running the company. management likes to play dirty. The top echelon is clueless as to what is happening at the store level.
Pros
Great place to work lots of opportunity to make money. Great product to sell. Excellent workimg enviroment. respectful and concerned leaders.
Cons
they could have a better 401k match. the sales floor tends to be crowded sometimes.need to improve on product selection.
Advice to Senior Management
keep up the great work continue working on product selection to improve the look of the store. Have a longer winter season before marking down sale items. maintain a better stock level. Never lose focus on the high end market. It is what your reputation is built on.
Pros
Great discounts, good people, solid brand. Talented people want to work here. Company is starting to make some good investments in its future.
Cons
Lots of corporate bureaucracy to deal with. Political vendors. Sometimes takes a long time to get things accomplished. High turnover of low to md level employees.
Advice to Senior Management
Focus on the long term and follow through on initiatives. Don't focus on the "flavor of the month". Stick to your guns and give things time. Don't be afraid to make mistakes in the short term for the benefit of the long term.
Pros
They are a competent organization, but it is a rough business in high end retail. They have good name recognition. Pay and benefits is OK.
Cons
The IT department is divided into 2 separate divisions with no on forcing them to work together effectively. Information sharing is abysmal. There are too many old timers still working there hanging on to their jobs. There needs to be more accountability for your work. Too many people perform poorly.
Advice to Senior Management
Get your IT departments in Jackson and New York working down the same path. Appoint someone to manage both departments and force them to work together effectively.
Pros
nice people,knowledgeable costumer,make new friends.
Cons
draw vs commission does not let you make money.
Pros
Need a job. Have met a few nice co-workers. Supposedly one of best stores to work for, so they say.
Cons
For the hourly wage one is supposed to be receptionist, cashier, stocker, cleaner, dressingroom attendant, doormat, well dressed, black wardrobe.
Advice to Senior Management
They need to learn how to treat employees. They talk down to people. They have their favorites and while others work really hard, the little clicks can just stand and b.s. by the registers. It is not specified at time of interview that you will have to do many jobs, not just the one you are hired for. The way managers speak to some employees is unbelievable, we are supposed to sign so many customers a day and get so many credit card approvals or else, you are not productive even if you bust your behind like a slave doing the others jobs you were not hired for.
Pros
Luxury brand experience and atmosphere helpful with retail career.
Cons
Poor management ( particular store), Highly unprofessional atmosphere, Unprofessional store manager, lack of updated product and variety led to loss of sales. Poor marketing, over selling to clients, pushy events, lack of attention to the real details...( Customer Service)
Pros
If ones wants to clerk versus giving specialized service...
Cons
Sub par on many levels...from employess to selections of merchandise
Advice to Senior Management
Professionalism!
Pros
Good discount for employees that makes it worth working for them, Excellent management in many locations which makes the work experience much more enjoyable
Cons
Starting pay is not at the level that one would expect for the type of merchandise they are selling in all the stores.
Advice to Senior Management
Management should be more aware that college degrees can be more important than experience and they should be more aware of employees' ability to climb the corporate ladder
