Morphing into Oracle - Not a good thing

I have been working at Salesforce full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Great products. Great Customers. Great CEO and vision. Great comp and perks.

    Cons

Work-Life balance is very difficult to achieve in Sales organization. Constantly changing management with lots of Oracle culture seeping into Salesforce and it's not good. I feel like I'm back at Oracle now - not fun. This was not the case when I joined Salesforce 3 years ago. Many Oracle managers have not embraced the Salesforce culture, and have increased demands on sales performance, micro-managing, excess administrivia. The workload has increased with staffing not keeping pace. Over-sized workload is contributing to employee burn-out and compromising performance. And it's getting worse. Nothing matters but $$$ to most managers hired from Oracle. Loved the company when I started but my opinion has soured over the last 1-2 years.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to and act on employee dissatisfaction issues. Many talented employees are leaving because of the Oracle influx of management practices that I also experienced at Oracle.

Technologically innovative, but one does not need to be an "Oracle" to see that, culturally, moving to Dark Ages...

    Pros

Constantly evolving technology. ability to work remotely, good benefits, and great brand marketing & PR.

    Cons

Extreme "Napoleonic" micro management, zero tolerance for dissent, claim "customer success" is main focus, but exert extreme pressure to close deals on Salesforce's timetable, not the clients.

New mantra - there are no "bum" territories, just bums with territories.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

None since one day I may be working for competitor.

SFDC was a great place to work...

I worked at Salesforce full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

SFDC was a great place to work in 2011. If you make quota you will do well.

    Cons

Unfortunately as the company has grown exponentially, it has gotten that big company mentality and politics. From a sales standpoint, goals have become unreasonable and territories have shrunk ridiculously. Ask what percentage of the reps are making quota. I suspect company wide it is less than 25% but management would never say. Very hard to make money these days at SFDC. Voluntary turnover in 2013 was insane (sales reps). Leadership from Oracle coming over in herds pushing Oracle mentality...not good unless you like that kind of thing.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Wake up...you will end up with C players for Acct Execs (probably there already) if quotas/comp plans are not competitive.

I have been working at Salesforce full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Incredible technology. Great customer success stories, and an amazingly passionate CEO

    Cons

As far as a sales job goes it is one of the worst I have ever experienced. The territories or account decks are not distributed evenly and there are only a handful of sales people succeeding despite the incredible numbers reported to Wall Street. Managers DO NOT coach; their only job is to manage your pipeline so you are left to out there on your own. As a result turn over is higher than anything I have ever seen

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

While the company is growing at an incredible pace, please do not lose sight of whats important...and that are your people. Great benefits, kotchens and an amazing CEO will help draw people but a great career is what will keep people with the company

    Pros

Love the technology, I think it is the best in the market place and can not be beat.

    Cons

The culture has changed, I joined two years ago and there was such a great air of optimism no matter who you talked to, now that air has been deflated from the company. It is quickly changing into a slow corporate culture.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get back to your roots and what made you great in the first place. You said Oracle was the enemy and now all you do is hire management people from Oracle.
