I worked at Salt Lake Community College (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Great place, great people, solid leadership with long term vision and a highly experienced work force.

    Cons

Can't think of any negatives, the environment was progressive and had a structured way about planning for and implementing new projects even though some initiatives took longer to fund than might be desirable if coming from a for-profit business environment.

    Advice to Management

Try to maintain IT salary structures as close to industry averages (in the local area) as possible.

I have been working at Salt Lake Community College full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Flexible with hours worked and time taken off, pay is higher than other institutions in the state, good benefits.

    Cons

Difficult to advance, still a state paid employee so salary is not commensurate with experience or skills, traveling to different campuses on a regular basis.

    Pros

Very friendly students and co-workers Flexibility of this job works very well with your class schedule Relaxed atmosphere Your workplace is nearby to your classes (on campus) Good way to fill in the gaps of your knowledge You are off work on holidays, weekends, and breaks

Work hours are limited and dependent on student demand Can only work up to about 20 hours per week Can get very repetitive if you have multiple students in the same class asking the same questions May have to tutor multiple students at a time and get paid the same as tutoring only one

    Advice to Management

Provide some initial training for effective tutoring techniques Push the students that don't put in the effort to get the most out of their college education and tutoring service
