What a great group of people to work with

LAN/WAN Administrator (Current Employee)
Southfield, MI

I have been working at Salvation Army full-time for more than a year

ProsYou're working here because you want to help people. Nice offices, flexible hours, incredible health benefits. There's a real sense of community when you work here. Any time there's a local disaster you know that it is your organization who may be first on the scene to provide comfort and help.

ConsDon't expect to get rich here. Salaries are low, but hey, this is non-profit.

Advice to Senior ManagementTry to bring back some of those great reasons to work at TSA ... The holiday lunches, etc.

Stressful and underpaid

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

I have been working at Salvation Army full-time for more than a year

ProsThe insurance is good.
The Store Manager and Assistant Manager at my location are wonderful.
The store employee's are kind, considerate, professional

ConsNo raises, not even cost of living
The Major of the region is unfriendly, unprofessional, and seems to care more about money, than the "mission" of the company.
Policies seem to change to whatever the Major deems appropriate to suit his needs
Employee's are allowed to work while under the influence of drugs and alcohol without repercussion
Employee"s are allowed to use their sick time
No room for growth
Major expects a ridiculous quota without the necessary amount of supplies to do the job, nor the employees to complete it
Will find a way to fire anyone that becomes ill or hurt due to a work injury or any health issue
High turnover
Calls to upper management our never returned
Requests for supplies are constantly refused
Beneficiaries of the Program are allowed to make threats to employee's without repercussion
Emails to HEADQUARTERS go unanswered

Advice to Senior ManagementThe store management is great. They are caring, approachable, and fair. The problem occurs from the management at the region office. I feel that Salvation Army should take a look at how they treat their employee's. A high turnover rate should immediately indicate a problem. There is a reason why people aren't staying and I included those above. How can we "do the most good" for our organization, when they are not "doing the most good" for the employees?

I have been working at Salvation Army full-time for more than a year

ProsThey have a good mission in mind. You get to see people turn their lives around.

ConsRestrictions in wages. To much work. The turn over leads to constant training. Disorganized.
