I worked at Sam's Club part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

It's a very tight-knit community, I felt very comfortable being at work every day. Plenty of room to move around the company as you please, and tons of opportunity.

    Cons

A lot of the positions, as you'll find, require you to "know somebody@, but spend a decent amount of time in one or two positions and you should be pretty good to go.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Promote people based on service, not based on who they know!

I have been working at Sam's Club full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Friendly Coworkers. Room for advancement if you show you are more than just a body trying to get a paycheck. Plenty of areas to learn. The pay is alright for an hourly retail associate, but I believe that certain areas should have higher wages. I prefer constant change, but this is not the place for you if you are not with change!

    Cons

There are a lot of people there just to collect a paycheck. It seems like it is indicative of my store though.

I worked at Sam's Club full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

hard working and friendly associates, clean store, usually well stocked with product, meat department has famtastic rib eye steaks and good priced chicken breasts

    Cons

Management is terrible, they sit in an office and expect results every 10 minutes, cashiers and supervisors are not allowed to talk to each other at all, pushy for credit and upgrades, reprimanded for not hitting goals, favoritism from managers who look the other way while others are written up, working hours are terrible

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Fire all management unless they are performing to the standards of the corporate office. Treat workers as you would like to be treated, treat others fairly instead of favoritism. Open your eyes to what really goes on within your stores!!

I have been working at Sam's Club part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Working with great employees, start off pay is decent if you have previous experience, some of the members you get remind you exactly what it is to be "happy to help!" It's refreshing. Some members make your day!

    Cons

Training needs to be more detailed... down to the smallest thing... ESPECIALLY for Member Services. I've hit my 5 months with the company and I'm still finding out what NOT to do... AFTER I do it. I hope it doesn't reflect poorly on myself. You will sometimes have to deal with the occasional disgruntled member, but that's anywhere you work... Also constantly getting heckled to get Cash Rewards and Credits. We try and utilize the tools we have, we fail, and still get told we have low productivity. Our store is hitting the 1 year anniversary of its opening, so it's still slow and we don't get as much members as we should. Which is creating problems everywhere.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You need to communicate better with your employees if you have a concern with them directly, don't have a COS deliver the concern, and you need to take complaints more seriously.
