I have been working at Sam's Club part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Because a position a Sam's Club means constantly selling the Sam's Club membership, there are constant opportunities to learn new selling techniques and to offer to new ideas to reach the daily goal. There are raise incentives for increasing your sale productivity. There are also daily incentives if your team for that day reaches the daily goal. You will learn a 10 foot rule to help reach out to members.

I appreciate how the company allows employees to learn about different positions in the club. As an employee, if you are working a cash register but are also interested in working the jewelry counter, you may complete training exercises and you may shadow to learn this new job. I think this demonstrates how this company values continued learning and personal growth.

A position with this employer will give you the work-life balance you want. It can take up all your time or only some of it. Another benefit of this job is a schedule that works well with this work-life balance.

    Cons

A major con as a leader at Sam's Club is the pressure you have on yourself to make a membership sale and to keep your team increasing those membership sales. It can be draining, having members constantly shut you down as you try to make your pitch. If you are considering a leadership role here, you will need to brace yourself for responses like, "this is harassment" and "Don't ask me". Because your compensation can depend on how well you sell your pitch, being told 'no' and loosing a sale can feel like two punches to the face.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Set achievable goals for your store and don't be afraid to help sell those memberships too. Let your team know that you have their back, especially when a member yells a word as strong as 'harassment' to one of your employees during their sales pitch.

I have been working at Sam's Club part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

The other associates are great to work with. Many options of job titles to choose from, and can shift or advance in the various career paths.

    Cons

Benefits do not exist for part time employees as of 2014. There is a strong sense of favoritism among the managers and few associates.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Need to be more objective, think on the floor not behind a desk. Management needs to communicate with one another before delegating jobs to hourly associates.

I worked at Sam's Club part-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Friendly club members, management and coworkers. My husband's work schedule kept changing and they tried really hard to work with me. Fun environment. You hear a lot of negative about Sam's/Wal-mart, but I enjoyed it and was treated very well.

    Cons

Low pay, but Sam's/Walmart gives each area a pay scale for each position and that is all management can do.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Corporate- raise the pay scale, Costco is blowing Sam's away and it doesn't have to be that way.
