I have been working at Sam's Club part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

It's a part time job but for someone who want a consent 25-30hrs, not 40 this is a great job for you.

    Cons

I worked in 2 Sam's Club and the door greeters write down the cashier door errors, items they missed scanning and you get written up for every certain amount missed. This all depends on the club, how many items you can miss before written up. 4th write up is, no write up just fired. With the door error log it is very easy to get fired. A new cashier that has been there for a month who works 4-5 days a week managed to miss 2-3 items a week, small items like one bundle of bananas one day and a pack of water 2 days later. They have already been written up twice. They are friendly, sweet, money wise she is never short but still will be fired over simple mistakes. I have worked at many other retail stores and we all miss one item every now and then and make mistakes.

I have been working at Sam's Club part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

    Cool coworkers
Encounter a vast array of personalities (members)
    Great food during holiday season
    Discount on fruits and vegetables
    Casual attire acceptable

    Cons

More of a sales position than anything else. No formal way to make complaints about management. Treats cashiers like children (I.e. offering candy as incentives for sales). Lets cashiers know they are a disposable asset.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Placing customer service over sales would improve both work morale and plus sales (should be able to sale itself with benefits) and renewals.

I have been working at Sam's Club

    Pros

Smart to bring this side of the business to S.F.

    Cons

They need to get real. They're Walmart, not Nordstrom.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

HR needs to get its act together. Professionalism is severely lacking. I'd keep a close eye on this group.

    Pros

Upward mobility is very possible and you don't need experience to try new things. If you want a different role, there's several Dept's to choose from.

    Cons

Employees are treated like cattle from upwardly mobile people who have no idea what they're doing. It seems they're just people pleasers to the upper managers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take time to listen to your employees and actually try to learn what the job is before you boss people around who have been doing it for years.

I have been working at Sam's Club part-time

    Pros

Great job if you are in school and do not plan on making it a career. Pays more than most retail jobs, but still less than its direct competitors

    Cons

As a part-time associate you are never guaranteed hours and that is something they really take to heart. You may have 32+ hours a week for months and then all of a sudden you are dropped to maybe 15-20 hours and they do not even bat an eye.
