I have been working at Sam's Club

    Pros

Paid Holidays, vacations, and personal time after 2 years. The insurance is ok. Co-workers are awesome.

    Cons

Breaks never on time. Long lines due to cutting of hours. Angry members.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Need to get all management on the same page and realize associates can't live on the hours you're doling out. The business members are talking about not renewing do to the long lines and lack of cashiers. They do not want to hear about anything we offer them. They are already angry.

I worked at Sam's Club full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

    Job Security
    Good pay for management
    Good bonus opportunity

    Cons

The same as every other retail establishment. It is hard to find dedicated workers that will stay and work hard for their money. You have to constantly hire, train, hold accountable, and follow up on your employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Raise the pay so that associates will stay and be happy with their jobs.

    I worked at Sam's Club

    Pros

    Pay Is above average
    Some coworkers become good friends
    Free lunch for enforcing safety
    Stock share bonus
    Opportunity to enter stock program
    vacation time and pto
There is a lot to learn and stay challenged.
mini breaks along with lunch break
uniform and tools are provided (can wear everyday clothes)
    Free membership while employed
    Extra employee discounts during holidays
Credit challenges and prizes to keep workers engaged.
Most things are easy to learn.

    Cons

Management does not agree with each other and it shows within the ranks. Some bend certain rules, while others enforce them.
Good workers are pushed to the edge and taken for granted, others only stay because of company loyalty benefits.
Scheduling system (they advertise a flexible schedule but it is in fact the opposite, and only likely if you are a cashier.)
Constant short staffing before and after budget cuts
The sense of a team was real strong in the beginning but has since then went downhill.
    (Only really emphasized when closing)
Attendance is serious which is good, however if you have a weak immune system be careful.
Associates are sometimes expected to train others with no benefit to them.
Closing shifts are long because most of the time you get out 30 mins to 2 hours after your scheduled time.
Job descriptions aren't fully accurate after being employed for a while.
Membership and credit sales are important but are sometimes taken too seriously and cause a negative impact on the workers.
Management sometimes will get so frustrated in their own work that they reflect the negative energy on to the employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

There are a lot of problems that need to be worked out in the ranks. Management needs to stick by what they say and do at the initial interview throughout the whole duration of an employee's time worked. There is good potential for the company but it is being overshadowed by unfair treatment, inconsistent information, and a greed for power. Take care of the employees all the way down to the cart pushers because they are what makes the company function. Sam's Club will need loyal workers in the future because of the changing economy but they won't stay if they don't have security and a sense of well-being.

I have been working at Sam's Club part-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

-You can wear what you want.
-No work on major holidays + holiday pay
-Flexible hours. will work with your school schedule
-Promotions are easy. Always room for advancement in Sams Club. I was promoted from a cashier to electronics associate one year within working with the company. Would have been supervisor after six months if it wasn't for my school schedule.

    Cons

    -Needs new management
-Not enough hours(reason I'm leaving). Just started a few months ago, part-time associates can't go over 25 hours. Most of the time you don't reach anywhere close to 25 hours.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    To management
-Sometimes it's ok to hire team leads outside of the store if everyone who applied inside the store doesn't qualify for the position.
    - Get out of the office sometimes, and work on the floor somedays.

    Advice to Upper Management
-When you come to visit our store, do not let them know. Just pop up and see what's really going on

    Current Employee - Assistant Manager

I have been working at Sam's Club full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

As an assistant manager the salary is good. I love working with my associates and teaching them how to grow within the company. Get a nice bonus if your club is profitable. Nice 401k matching and stock purchasing.

    Cons

No work life balance. Need more payroll budget. Company doesn't know your strengths and places you in different management roles that doesn't necessarily meet the needs of the business. I originally wanted to become an assistant manager so that I could work as a Fresh Assistant Manager in which I had knowledge in since I was an associate. Two years later and yet to become a Fresh Manager, instead placed as a grocery manager, then Front End Manager and now a Membership Manager. They keep rotating us but the whole reason I became a manager was so that I could be a Fresh Manager.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Advice to market managers and regional managers......We are a member based club and you want us to provide legendary member service. How can we provide that with the payroll budget that is given. We keep growing our member base but we do not see increased payroll to provide legendary member service. Maybe you need to look into cutting back in other areas instead of payroll. It takes money to make more money. If we had more payroll then we could provide that legendary service that you all are always preaching about.

I have been working at Sam's Club part-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Pretty good for college students and decent pay

    Cons

Huge lack of training, politics play a big role in who gets what, a lack of genuine appreciation for hardworking employees

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take time out to sincerely appreciate what your employees do and focus more on rewarding hardworking employees. Those are the ones who sacrifice for the company and go above and beyond to make the company great!
