Long hours, random work and sometimes rework, but technically cutting edge.

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee) Richardson, TX

ProsThey are working on some really cutting edge technologies. The management is understanding and trying, but the work has to get done. Generally flexible in terms of daily schedule. You can work from home some days if needed.

ConsSamsung Telecom America is the offshore for Samsung Korea and they get treated like that. The work has to get done. You will face some unrealistic deadline. You may face some lack of information sharing situations.

Advice to Senior ManagementThey need to push back in terms of schedules and information shared.

    Good and Bad

    Engineer (Former Employee) Richardson, TX

ProsHard working employees. Good exposure to new technologies. Challenging work.
STA offers great benefits and the compensation is good. End of year gifts are nice.

ConsLong hours. Too many biz trips to Korea. No autonomy from HQ.
Too many projects are focused on commercialization work.

Advice to Senior ManagementImprove the cafeteria - the vegetarian food was terrible.
Focus more on long term planning. Improve the internal systems. End.

work here to build your resume

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee) Richardson, TX

    Prosgood benefits, decent cafeteria food

Consthis place is driven by politics, data doesn't drive decisions... it's flat, they outsource everything and don't promote from within. if you're female good lucking moving up here. this company will use you, so if you want to come here it's good to have samsung on your resume, that's about all you will get from here. overall this is the worst company i've ever worked for hands down.

Advice to Senior Managementget with 2009, offer flex hours, opp for advancement... you don't have to be chained to your desk to get work done. allow employees to do their job and make an impact. the politics are absurd and you will attract people because of the company name, but as of now, you'll never retain really good employees for more than a few years... this is springboard employer....

Lacks standard tools and IT resources.

    Koreans Rule Samsung

Administrative Assistant (Current Employee) Richardson, TX

ProsThe people are the best reason by Far to work for Samsung.

ConsProbably 85% of employees are outsourced - only upper management are permanent employees. Samsung also has VERY high turnover - people drop like flies there. Samsung is a Korean company - but the Koreans micromanage EVERY aspect of business-to the point it's counter-productive. Everything has to have approval from Koreans prior to coming to fruition - and Koreans will ask a million questions about why you are requesting whatever it is you want. Way too many hands in the pot. Also-Koreans don't like anyone who is not Korean or at the very least Asian. All upper-management is Korean.

Advice to Senior ManagementSee above. Stop being so racist towards non-Koreans and pretending like you don't understand English when someone pushes back on you for questioning them. It's very frustrating.
