Consulting in the Samsung Global Strategy Group was a rewarding experience that allowed me to learn from ex-consultants

I worked at Samsung Group as an intern (less than a year)

    Pros

The position offered a unique opportunity to work in a Western-style office in Seoul, giving me access to both a professional workplace and the Korean culture.

    Cons

The purpose of the group is ill-defined making it seemingly difficult to understand exactly one's purpose and function in the office.

    Pros

Pride about working no.1 mobile company. And learn professional approach especially regarding documentation. And job securities, so that sometimes I can work slowly

    Cons

    Conservative bosses

I have been working at Samsung Group full-time

    Pros

There's opportunities that are frequently given to outstanding employees, and you can even choose to apply for other departments.

    Cons

LOTS of work. Overtime is almost a requirement, and there's not much flexibility in the working environment.

I worked at Samsung Group full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Good brand power, smart people to work with, good compensation, including full medical coverage for spouse, good initial support if you're an expat

    Cons

Could become more efficient if there weren't so much administrative work enforced by the company, such as history of Samsung, the "learning" of Samsung leadership, etc. Approximately 10-20% of the all workforce are dedicated to so called "sa-moo-gook" function, which is unique to Samsung organizations, that basically exist for managing people and collect/summarize/make reports to senior execs.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Have some vision and guts! Staying low and extending your contract 1-year won't make you a good leader. Having a good vision about the business and removing obstacles to execute them will.

I have been working at Samsung Group as a contractor (more than a year)

    Pros

The trainees are motivated to work hard as there promotions are tied into the score they get on their end of program test. They will diligently follow your instructions.

    Cons

If you want to survive without banging your head on the walls don't rock the boat too heavily. It's really difficult to get the more embedded employees to take on additional risk in order to change the status quo.
