Poor direction from top-level leadership

Software Engineer (Current Employee)
San Jose, CA

I have been working at Samsung Information Systems America full-time for more than a year

Proscushy environment. good place to work if you are looking for something cushy

ConsHQ management does it's best to disempower its talent. There is little ability to empower or make changes. There are "dispatchers" from korea that are really just spies to make sure HQ influence and rules are adhered to. Because of the size and distance there is not much of a chance to shine in the company. Was unable to get raise to bring me up to market rate.

A great place to work

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsSamsung is a company ready to take on tough challenges and risks. It's not what you would think of a stereotypical Asian company. It's bold and speedy, and it rewards the bold.

ConsThere is a lot of splash-over from the Korea side, and there is definitely a learning curve to be able to communicate and understand the HQ side. Corporate policy and direction isn't as monolithic as those of the Jobs-o-cracy denomination would probably prefer. If you think Apple is just perfect, then this is not Apple.

Advice to Senior ManagementFigure out how to get US and Korean sides to understand each other at a motivation and thinking level. 95%+ of the people don't get it.

Korean driven only and beware

Manager (Current Employee)
San Jose, CA

I have been working at Samsung Information Systems America full-time for more than a year

ProsPays pretty well and there are people who care

ConsThis place is Korean driven and the most segregated company I have seen. I don't mean to sound bitter but it's the truth and that's how it'll be. HQ/Korea wants to make every decision all the way down to what office supplies. Those who are Korean are wired to become devoted lifers and willing to shift around in any role possible. I must warn anyone that being non Korean it is very toxic. Trust me!!!

Advice to Senior ManagementStop being so stubborn and timid. Allow those in the Silicon Valley and people you bring in to do what they're good at. You can't just sit around and wait for competitors to invent something and copy it. That luck will run out soon
