I have been working at Samsung Mobile

    Pros

Good pay for what you have to do, don't expect to enjoy it if you aren't a Samsung enthusiast. Its unlikely you could see advancement in this company without drinking the cool-aide

    Cons

You have to be willing to give up some of your personal time without comp time

I have been working at Samsung Mobile

    Pros

Pay was good but that is it.

    Cons

Hours are rediculous. You are expected to be there until 8 or 9 every night even if you don't have anything to do. Koreans look down on non koreans. I would not recommend working here to anyone. Turn over in my group was 75%.

    Pros

Samsung has deep pockets, and a very large number of employees in South Korea (HQ) with some of the best work ethics in the world.

Deep pockets mean a very competitive salary with great benefits. This will remain the strongest reason for sticking around with Samsung Mobile.

Great HQ support means US-based Samsung Mobile employees are able to focus on their work without having to worry if R&D is following up on requests.

    Cons

Unfortunately deep pockets also mean you are considered to be replaceable.

Great HQ support is reciprocal - they will expect you to also share the work ethics in Suwon, which can be difficult for many with many personal sacrifices having to be made.

Senior leadership changes frequently which means internal politics can be seen at the surface and get exhausting.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Promote based on performance, understand that "Samsung" needs to embrace multiple cultures and attitudes in order to be a truly "global" company, and fight for your employees who deserve recognition.

I have been working at Samsung Mobile full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Calm atmosphere, relaxed work attire. No need to dress up when you are just testing all day. Compensation is decent.

    Cons

Cannot move up unless you are Korean, even if you work very hard. Managers do not manage even when there is a big confrontation. No incentives plan and not really good benefits

  9.

    it's all about your manager.

I have been working at Samsung Mobile full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

a good manager will keep your work life satisfaction and career advancement in check. Good pay and benefits.

    Cons

constant crisis mode, no forward planning, a bad manager (or one with no backbone and is a lackey to senior leadership) will make your life hell as there is a lot of fingerpointing in this company. Culture is to look out for yourself and use the people below you to get your next promotion. Poor people management. We have a lot of empty space in our office, but management made our work spaces smaller, almost to tell us this is your value to our company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

give more than lip service when you say "people are our greatest assets"

Allow for a 360 review and skip level meetings with NO retaliation to see how our bosses are ACTUALLY performing.

If the company really believes in a top down hierarchy, then why are junior people often getting scrutinized before upper Management?

Some people leaders really need a course in leadership, because throwing people under the bus is becoming a sport here.

Forward planning. If you need a report that is going to affect tens or hundreds of millions of dollars in a week, you lack in forward planning skills. Hence the culture of constant crisis (words of our ceo).

    Pros

You get to work with the lastest technology. Train customers and staff with a relaxed environment.

    Cons

Upper management doesnt know whats going on, ridiculous sales numbers. Does not promote within.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire existing workings for management instead of outsiders that dont know what they are doing.

I worked at Samsung Mobile full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Large company with lots of opportunities to learn and grow. Complay pays great has excellent benefits and really takes care of their employees.

    Cons

Management doesn't listen to their employees. Strong Koren culture with top down management. Appears externally to be well organized but not the case in all areas. Decision making without understanding full impact of decision.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to employees, they have great ideas the take the company to the next level. Support work-life balance don't just say you do, do it.
