Great place to learn but very political and a lot of favoritism towards certain people

Senior Management Analyst (Current Employee) San Antonio, TX

ProsVariety of work, lots to learn for new graduates and undertsand the inner workings of how government works. Exposure to political decision making and also opportunity to know the movers and shakers of the town. Job also comes with a satisfaction that you are truely helping citizens. Benefits are decent but salaries are not competitive per the work required.

ConsFavoritism bordering on discrimination within departments, no real career improvement opportunities, work with recognition only awarded to workers that know how to butter up the bosses, no real recognition to hard working employees, money is not worth the work that is expected, encouraged to work after hours, take work home or work on weekends- without any extra comp time or over time. Every action is micro-managed and managers do not take any responsibility when something goes wrong, blame the employee!

Advice to Senior ManagementEncourage and promote employees beyond those who you personally like, extreme lack of motivation and recognition for hard workers.

Too little emphasis on job performance, too much on "endurance"

Management Analyst (Former Employee) San Antonio, TX

ProsGood benefits package. The health insurance especially was really good when I worked there. Great retirement co-contribution with a 2-1 match.

ConsNo culture of rewarding performance. Too many staff are promoted based on the time served rather than their performance. This promotes mediocrity in mid-level leadership positions.

Advice to Senior ManagementPromote people based on merit, not endurance. Change the rules for promotional job raises.
