Some staff members "catty" and nothing done about it.

    Teacher Aide (Current Employee)

ProsProvides a nice job while attending the college for some extra money.

ConsComplaints about members of staff who are toxic to the work environment seem to be ignored.

Advice to Senior ManagementAllow disciplinary actions, or at a minimum, listen to your employees when they report bad behavior in other employees.

    Adjunct Math Instructor

    Adjunct Professor (Current Employee)
    Houston, TX

ProsMy boss is a wonderful person! Each semester you are given a choice on what classes you want to teach in a "first come, first serve" basis. I love the flexibility. You also have the choice from semester to semester if you want to teach so it is not hard to take time off in the event that you may have "life issues" to deal with.

ConsAs an adjunct there are no guarantees that you will teach a course from one semester to the next but that due to factors that cannot be controlled. I have not seen any posting for full-time teaching positions in the two years I have been employed at San Jac.

ProsHolidays, lots of vacation time and sick time, great co-workers and very accessible leadership.

ConsLess than average pay. Difficult to be promoted more than one or two tiers.

Advice to Senior Managementmore competitive salary studies.

Solid job with good learning opportunities, but poor advancement.

Endpoint Analyst (Tier II Tech Support) (Current Employee)
    Houston, TX

ProsLearned a lot, no overtime, most of the time, and management was open for communication.

ConsThere is not a lot of job movement, unless you are a star performer.

Advice to Senior ManagementMore life-balancing perks to match those in other departments would be great.

On the cusp of great things...

    Coordinator (Former Employee)
    Pasadena, TX

ProsGreat Chancellor, working on leadership and employee development, making change

ConsSpeed of change is slow, politics/status involved with education

Advice to Senior ManagementStart thinking outside of the box!

    Good Students, Some Red Tape

    Adjunct Professor (Current Employee)
    Houston, TX

ProsThe students are pretty good for the Houston area. Blackboard is a great platform to use.

ConsAdministrative red tape, more so than at other local community colleges. Administration is not always helpful when setting up courses or getting things accomplished. You're on your own.

Advice to Senior ManagementWhy does everything need to be on paper when you've already got the information online?

    Working for San Jacinto College

    Senior Administrative Assistant (Current Employee)
    Houston, TX

ProsGreat benefits, lots of paid time off due to college holiday schedules, Great co-workers

Conslow salary wages , poor management, paid only once a month

Advice to Senior ManagementCompensation study needs to be done again. Instead of sitting in a boardroom making decesions regarding pay for people who work in certain departments but actaully sit them and see what a day is like in their shoes. Pay for Sr. Administrative Assistants is very low compared to other colleges and universities in the Houston TX area.

    "meh" ... pros and cons

Professor, College Or University (Current Employee)

Prosthe people I work with are very nice

    Consghastly hours and low pay

Advice to Senior Managementwe professors are highly educated, highly skilled, and highly motivated ... why not help us do our work rather than interfere? ... just leave us alone to do our thing, we know what we are doing .... administration, please, get over yourselves - you are not the life-blood of the institution ... the students are the life-blood of the institution and it is we profs who are educating them ...remember that without profs there is no college
