I worked at San Joaquin Valley College

    Pros

The schedule was the best I've ever had. Working in education gave me every holiday off. They pay was competitive as well.

    Cons

There wasn't a clear cut way of management in my dept and at times no management at all. Procedures seemed to be constantly changing.

I have been working at San Joaquin Valley College full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Great work environment. Everyone is very helpful, and it is a close-knit group. Best company I've ever worked for

    Cons

Hard to get a full time teaching position. You'll work many hours that you don't necessarily get paid for, but that's true of any teaching job

I have been working at San Joaquin Valley College

    Pros

    Teachers are committed to students.

    Cons

It's all about the money. Anyone can "enroll." Grads are seldom able to find a job with the degree earned to pay the huge student loan debt.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Your employees are your greatest resource. Everyone feels like their job is constantly in jeopardy.

    Cons

They always make you feel like you are going to get fired. Micro-managing and probably won't be open much longer! Low census.

    Pros

Good management, not a lot of micromanagement, decent starting pay for the job, can ask lots of questions without feeling inadequate. good team members to work with.

    Cons

Can tend to have lots of down time with this position, not a whole lot of room for advancement.

I have been working at San Joaquin Valley College full-time

    Pros

Care about students, interested in employee success, always looking to improve and be progressive.

    Cons

Communication can be a challenge and sometimes, though largely as a result of regulations, directives change very frequently.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I would just advise more transparency and communication.

    Pros

Work life balance, they do a good job at making the student fill welcome while there attending but once they leave its a whole bother story

    Cons

    Low pay
They want you to wear way to many hats. I feel that they don't care about anything but numbers.

I have been working at San Joaquin Valley College part-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Courses are relatively easy to teach with a lot of support. Small class size which is great.

    Cons

Course content needs updated online this was expected to be done by instructors with no clear guidelines. If you are not full time you will lose classes without notice. We were expected and told regularly to engage students without much guidance on how and when students failed or were not supposedly engaged we were asked why as if we did something wrong.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be honest with employees about why they are not being asked to teach. Provide clearer expectations and feedback do not ask employee what they think they could do to improve let them know what needs to improve and tell employees when they are doing well

As an instructor, you will be part time. No guarantee that you will have classes from month to month, and zero chance at being bumped up to full time
