Minnesota - I like the new style!

I have been working at Sanford Brown College as a contractor (more than 3 years)

    Pros

The best reason to work here is: my co-workers! Never have I worked at a college where I really enjoyed the entire staff. I do now and oh what a feeling. Our President has the strong vision of student success and the rest of the team believes in it. I do, too. The DOE is approachable and knows what it takes to be a great instructor. The program chairs are all new and improved. Admissions has an energized group who celebrates personal student stories. Career Services is way better than last year and financial aid has the best leader they have had in 7 years. Very pleased I stayed to be a part of this turn around.

    Cons

The name change has been bad for us in the community. Change is difficult and hard to see a means to an end.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Good luck. The road up is a long one.

    Horrible place to work!

I worked at Sanford Brown College

    Pros

Decent salary, but that's pretty much the only pro. Other than that, I was lucky to make a couple of friends that I still keep in touch with.

    Cons

    Inflexible schedule
    Very long hours
Shift variables (e.g. 8 to 6 one day and 11 to 830 the next)
Selling a terrible "product" to people that can't afford it

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Just shut all the campuses down.

Enjoyed sowing information into the lives of older/adult students who wanted to better their lives for their future.

I worked at Sanford Brown College part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

As a minority male whose father died when I was 6 years old, I understand the plight of young people who make a commitment to prepare for a better life for themselves and their families than I was afforded as a child. I did not let the loss of my father curtail my dreams and today I have earned the rank of Colonel in the Air Force and have earned two Masters degrees.

    Cons

The only disappointment that I experienced at Sanford Brown is that due to things beyond my control, the college is scheduled to close a the end of 2014.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

As I moved through my Air Force and Corporate careers, I experienced good and the not so good situations in both the military and the corporate cultures. In the military we were held to higher standards and had less flexibility to be able to deviate from standards than we had in corporate America.

I worked at Sanford Brown College

    Pros

The only pro is that the school is no longer operating.

    Cons

nightmare. Management was borderline abusive. I wouldn't wish the school on my worst enemy. Overworked and underpaid.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Your employees work hard if they respect you. You obviously weren't well respected since the school closed. Don't abuse your staff.

Amazing turn around , now with empowered instructors.

I have been working at Sanford Brown College

    Pros

My program and GenEd instructors were great before but you can really see now they've been giving the green light to make more of their own decisions, decisions that positively affect the whole college.

    Cons

The staff is still stretched pretty thin but a couple dozen more students would solve that quickly.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The instructors you have left are still here due to their passion for education--not limited opportunities for them elsewhere. Retain them and hire back the best ones you had to let go.
