I worked at Sanford-Burnham Medical Research Institute full-time

    Pros

Nice colleges and good collaborations with material and knowledge.

    Cons

Follow lowest academic salaries but expect to work more than for a company. Late hours, no over time and no work security. Fire pregnant women as they can't work as much.

I have been working at Sanford-Burnham Medical Research Institute part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

People are friendly, but they're all miserable in their own ways. P.I.s are demanding and you'll see people staying out late. The staff is very friendly, but don't expect to do much talking when your nose will stuck to your bench.

    Cons

Lots of hours, lots of hard work, lots of lifting. Expect to be overworked and not paid well. Motivation easily disappears as you realize that you won't be getting anymore $$ anytime soon.

I worked at Sanford-Burnham Medical Research Institute full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Very collaborative environment. Good seminars. In general, facilities -specially the animal facility- offer a great and prompt service and have very helpful staff. For foreign employees, the manager of the International Office offers an excellent service and advice. Free parking.

    Cons

Lately many groups are having money struggle and either leaving SBMRI or firing lots of people. The work atmosphere is turning quite depressing.
