Pros
You can expect to be involved in all the aspects of the product/project you are working on. The staff does anything so you feel comfortable. You are able to meet with whoever you wish up to the vice chairman (if available) and your performance is all up to you.
Cons
Lack of background knowledge in the pharma or biotechnology industry might hold you back, though you get quite good support for that as well
Pros
Good benefits, very good compensation, a lot of vacations.
Cons
100% fire fighting with no directions or guidance from the senior management.
Advice to Senior Management
The root cause is from Paris....The CEO may have great vision but there is no enabler to pave the path.
Pros
Company has good market reputation and positive impressions with existing customers. Products have high recognized quality and the organization operates in a sincere and ethical manner.
Cons
The rapid revenue declines in developed markets is not offset fast enough through new compound development and other growth opportunities. Until core reorganization moves are made to resize the P&L, it will be difficult to be optimisitic on near term performance.
Advice to Senior Management
Make the difficult decisions necessary to reposition the company for growth. It is always better to pursue deep change, than extended decline.
Pros
Great work/life balance
Very good benefits since it is a French company
Cons
It is amazing how the second largest pharma company in EU survives with the quality of senior leadership. Who would have thought that no prior pharmaceutical company experience is required to assume a VP-level position???????? It is unfortunate that this can be such a great company, but just way too much politics and poor decision-making by leadership from top to bottom.
Advice to Senior Management
They are beyond rescue... Not even sure what they do on a day-to-day basis...
Pros
Sanofi-Aventis had the best benefits. The time off after having a baby and also the amount of vacation time. Medical benefits were also top notch.
Cons
During the transformation S-A became a very stressful place to work. Job security is a large part of being satisfied at work and when in a constant state of fear that you may lose your job, tomorrow or next month it causes a lot of anxiety.
Advice to Senior Management
As I said, when I first began at sanofi it was a great place to work, but as the years went on it became very stressful. I recommend getting input from your employees and if they really cared, they would consistently stay on top of the feedback and make changes so that their employees were happy.
Pros
company provides Good benefits but not much more that that in terms of development
Cons
Bad Leadership
Internal politics are rife
Pros
Good benefits, great cafateria, and updated environment
Cons
very big - you don't get to know too many of the people that you communicate with
Advice to Senior Management
more functions for employees to come together.
Pros
The people in the trenches are hard working and bright. Independence of schedule is a plus for those who need some flexibility.
Cons
No more career path opportunities available. Micro managing for reports versus selling for bottom line results. Too much "just checking the box" activity going on. Most products are facing the patent cliff.
Advice to Senior Management
Senior management is great at managing $$ and making strategic business moves, but the lack of trust from employees stems from the way they feel their colleagues and friends were dealt with during the many rounds of layoffs. Anyone that is left either has survivor's remorse or is waiting for the next bad news that could spell the end to their careers...knowing it could happen to any of them at any time! Show your people, current AND past, more respect and dignity! During reorganizations, there has been NO customer continuity nor logical consideration of people's relationships, historical geographies, or therapeutic expertise...too hap-hazard!! Use local intelligence from DM's and RD's to make those decisions and that would also show them that you respect their opinions and decisions as well. You have lost some incredible talent and run the risk of losing more; eventually to be left only with those who cannot afford to go anywhere else but have lost their passion...
Pros
- stable
- good products
- good size territories
Cons
- experience is under valued
- management is very Male oriented
Pros
Pay and benefits are decent
Cons
Employees are asked, no required, to do more with less. Respect is a one-way street. Employees must show respect toward senior leadership, but there is no reciprocity.
Advice to Senior Management
Take a hard look at the conduct of VPs and how they treat their employees
