    Choose your department carefully.

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee) Swiftwater, PA

ProsThere are some really wonderful, amazing, dedicated people working at sanofi pasteur Swiftwater. The pay and benefits are very good for the area (check a cost of living calculator before accepting/declining an offer.) The work is for an admirable cause.

ConsEach department is run almost independently by managers who set/allow the tone to be set. Therefore, some departments have a positive attitude and respect for employees while others are hostile. This can be seasonal work for some departments, so work-life balance goes out the window. Rules handed down from human resources can be obscure and obstructive to advancement. The current morale is very bad with employees looking to move to other companies.

Advice to Senior ManagementReinvestment in site and equipment is worthless if you have no one knowledgeable enough (not "qualified", there is a difference) left to produce your product. You can't strip the profit from this site to support other parts of the corporation without consequences.

Was a good company to work for in 2001, but not so good anymore.....

Quality Assurance Manager (Former Employee) Swiftwater, PA

ProsGreat vacation package, nice location, pretty facility

ConsFrance doesn't like the US, so there is constant battles. Improving the quality of life of patients is not the focus anymore it is the all mighty $$$$

Advice to Senior ManagementValue what matters, the people and the product not only the profits

Great experience as your first job in a pharmaceutical company

Senior Laboratory Analyst (Current Employee) Swiftwater, PA

ProsGreat health benefit, very nice vacation package, match 401K contribution.

ConsNot easy to get a permanent employment. It's better to start as a contractor.

Terrible management who will chew you up and spit you out

    Manager (Current Employee) Swiftwater, PA

ProsGood benifits and very competative 401K. Some of the people are nice. Good place to get experience with outdated equipment and non-compliance issues.

ConsNo more pension. Management uses its employees like manure. HR is as evil as any company. They spend money like drunken sailors (takes 2 years just to plan a project, forget implementation), so the money for bunuses is running out fast. The US site takes all of the global hits, because France and Canada are all union. All in all a very depressing place to work. A gate gaurd was asked if he should recommend sanofi to a friend, and he said never, "I never see a happy face coming through the gate."

Advice to Senior ManagementNone that would ever help. French guy who took Bill Reed's job is a start, he's at least nice, but too little too late.

    Glad to be out

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee) Swiftwater, PA

ProsBenefits. Very good on vacation time.

ConsForced rating system, hiring freezes, attempting to force people to other locations.

Advice to Senior ManagementGet your procedures together. Hire managers that have experience in "Well Run" pharmaceutical companies instead of closed after consent decree companies. Stop trying to make people miserable in order to make them leave for other locations or opportunities. Recognize the talent that you have lost.

    Look elsewhere.

IO Senior Tech (Current Employee) Swiftwater, PA

ProsExcellent benefits package and extensive incentives offered for employees (discount hotels, vehicle supplier pricing, discounts at local businesses) and one of the most secure employers in the region. Tuition reimbursement is also a big plus.

ConsCompany touts importance of work-life balance but actions (scheduling, demands of manufacturing) suggest otherwise. Absolutely no room for advancement- smart, hardworking folks (some with advanced degrees) are pigeonholed in entry-level or stagnant roles and are kept there because Industrial Operations "needs people" to fulfill their drive to be first to market. Management is mostly passive/hands-off, accountability and responsibility is nonexistent. Morale generally in the toilet. No external hires in 5 years and headcount is still being reduced, so the employees that are left are stretched between several platforms at the sacrifice of their personal life so the company can save more money. Employee perks (Christmas parties, family carnival, Dorney Park day) have all been cut to save money, so people feel like they aren't appreciated and have nothing to look forward to.

Advice to Senior ManagementMake sure you're putting the right people in the right roles. Take a closer look at your people, what their talents are, and where their strengths lie. Get to know your direct reports. Perhaps more importantly, find out what their passions are. Working harder to put the right people in the right roles will benefit you and your employees immensely, because when people do things they are interested in and enjoy, their productivity improves.

They say they encourage development and promote from within, but this is far from true!

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee) Swiftwater, PA

ProsGood pay for the area, good beneftis (although pension recently taken away)

    ConsSo many to list:
HR usually passes the buck to other people so they don't have to do anything
the company says they want to promote from within and encourages development, but this is only true if you're one of a select few (and/or you know someone).
political aspect of the company is overly apparent (it's not what you know, but who you know)

Advice to Senior ManagementIf you ask for input from your employees, actually listen to it because as it stands right now, it sure seems that you're only asking to act as if you're doing something with the information.

    Company Stuck in the past

Sales & Marketing Director (Current Employee) Swiftwater, PA

ProsThere are a lot of honest people and hard workers.

ConsThe culture sucks, the company is stuck in the past.

Advice to Senior ManagementListen to people's feedback, open up your minds, hire from the outside, embrace diversity of race and background.
