I worked at Sanofi U.S. as an intern (less than a year)

    Pros

Company truly values their consumers. Pay is above average for an intern with little to no experience. Lunch is often catered and there are great opportunities to network in the field.

    Cons

Upon entry, there is not much training involved and often times, you must ask for more work. The work can be repetitive

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Create an intern training program to initiate a good relationship and foundation for future full-time employees

I worked at Sanofi U.S. full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

    excellent healthcare products
great employee benefits - health; auto; other miscellaneous.
company thinks that it's training is much better than it really is.

    Cons

unrealistic view of of product sales in light of ACA and insurance industry pressures.
doesn't allow field sales to conduct their own operations (though they say they do.)
    sales bonus structure constantly changing.
training does not adequately prepare you for product sales.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Let field sales call their own shots when it comes to there customers.
Curtail mindless busy work - this does not increase sales.

Sanofi after it took over Genzyme

Current Employee - Principal Supply Chain Analyst in Cambridge, MA
Current Employee - Principal Supply Chain Analyst in Cambridge, MA

I have been working at Sanofi U.S.

    Pros

Flexible hours. Can take initiatives. Presentations and meetings, under good bosses, are actually useful rather than useless and boring.

    Cons

Percentage of bonuses keep getting cut. Job security has become less stable; and promotion to VP level has been severely curtailed.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

People in different departments should talk more to each other!

I have been working at Sanofi U.S.

    Pros

    Lots of resources
    Facilities are great
Advocate for professional and personal development

    Cons

Company is battling French identity vs. a global identity

Lots of disconnect between global teams and affiliates- especially with the US.

Company overall does not do a great job of communicating intradepartmentally

Typical beauracracy gets in the way of simple decisions

Sometimes too conservative and has this has consistently marred the companies performance

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Understand where the bread is buttered- loosen the purse strings and unbutton the top button on your dress shirts- you are competing with leaner companies- make yourself more agile

I have been working at Sanofi U.S.

    Pros

    Great benefits. Very talented people.

    Cons

I really do miss Genzyme - they actually cared about their employees and helped them grow. Sanofi views employees as numbers and if you want to get ahead - you really have to kiss up. They don't allow their employees dignity and respect. There is a lot of internal bullying and harassment. The Sanofi managers are intimidating and they do not respect people. There are a lot of extremely talented people that work for this company - they need to be treated better.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I think the managers at Sanofi need to be trained more with people skills. THere are a lot of scientists managing people - and do not have ANY people skills. There is a lot of micro managing which is NOT a healthy environment for any employee.

    Pros

competitive salaries and benefits; some very talented colleagues

    Cons

internal processes are burdensome; poor execution of basic business functions
public firing of CEO resulting in lost equity and confidence

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

you have a fiduciary responsibility to stock holders; petty internecine board politics should be kept behind closed doors or eliminated

    Pros

    Great benefits
smaller divisions have great people & management

    Cons

unrealistic quotas…double digit growth in a market that has had negative growth in past 3 years
    not providing needed resources

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

destroying smaller divisions, add products to the bag…not technology to remove the rep ~ physician relationships

I worked at Sanofi U.S. full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Many divisions and moving from one to another is encouraged for employee development. Sanofi has invested heavily in resources to develop its people, in addition to encouraging experiences in different divisions.
There is a deep benefits package. The 401K is very good. Most everything else is average. There are a lot of nice, not great, added benefits.
For the most part the products are solid

    Cons

The company culture is drowning in all that is "Big Pharma". Loads of bureaucracy, policies and politics. The paranoid, fearful attorneys paralyze the sales force with fear to the point that most people are afraid to send an e-mail. Politics run amok so that it damages the ability to have forthright communication. Creativity and solution oriented thinking are suffocated by the abundance of protocol, politicking, "compliance", and overarching fear.
As far as compensation, a couple of divisions are at the high end of average and others, such as diabetes, are at the low end

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Embrace that your greatest asset is your people rather than your beloved policies

I have been working at Sanofi U.S. full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Challenging, great products, great vacation package. Much of your experience depends on your manager, as executive influence on daily activities are minimal. Your professional growth is dependent on you, as there is certainly an entrepreneurial mindset as it relates to growing your business. New product launches in 2015 could change everything.

    Cons

The company has been unsure who it is for quite some time. Objectives change frequently, too often a reaction to recent data, which shows a lack of vision. Sales goals are often arbitrary and lack real world meaning. It seems this is to suppress bonuses. The leadership in the U.S. has been very poor the last several years. There have been recent changes in national leadership, and it is too soon to evaluate them.
