I worked at Sanofi U.S. full-time for more than a year

    Pros

For G&A support function, Sanofi is mostly willing to employ someone who does not have a pharma/biotech background. This makes it a great way to gain some experience in the industry then move to a smaller, higher growth biotech company in Cambridge/Mass. The benefits are also great with a very good 401K match.

    Cons

-This is a French-owned company so the culture is a bit more conservative and formal, which might not work for people who are more used to a casual/ semi-casual work environment.
-Top management stays in place so there's very little opportunity to move along the corporate ladder. The tendency is to move people laterally.
-The hours can be long, mostly around the budget/LRP season.

I worked at Sanofi U.S. full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Despite reducing many benefits over the past 10 years, the benefits are still pretty decent. One of the nicest additions is the flexibility to work from home 1-2 days a week (at your manager's discretion). Working for the right organization and the right manager can be quite rewarding. If you want to get paid well for doing very little work, you can blend in with most of your colleagues.

    Cons

Compensation is restricted to the range for your level so eventually you will see little increase unless you move into management. Most decisions originate from the top in France and everyone below must follow. The culture is extremely cautious where everyone is afraid to make decisions, take risks, and question the direction of the leaders. There is very little empowerment at the base where the real decisions should be made. Insert all the other typical cons of a big business (ultra bureaucracy, inability to make an impact, hidden agendas, self-preservation,

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Assess the skills that people are strong with and mentor/train them in skills/roles they wish to develop. Stop focusing on developing the skills they are weakest in (aside from communication). Develop a culture where risk takers are rewarded and only punish failures if they are due to very poor decisions and lack of communication. Improve workflows. Start with the workers at the bottom to identify opportunities for improvement and participate with empowered, expert business analysts. Focus on more agile, continuous feedback processes. Allow people to advance in levels without having to give up what they are good (e.g. technical skills) and become something they are not good at (viz. managers).

I have been working at Sanofi U.S. as an intern for less than a year

    Pros

Flexible hours (full-time employees are encouraged to work one day/week from home); supportive and welcoming staff members who encourage informational meetings and provide networking connections; I've met many people who have been working for the company for 15+ years

    Cons

Not sure if there are very many entry-level opportunities (understandable for the industry); as an intern I wish I had been given more concrete feedback/responsibilities

    Pros

Great compensation and benefits, great products, interesting work in a variety of therapeutic areas, great internal training programs and education, health club, health center, great cafeteria and coffee/sorbet shop!

    Cons

Some silo issues, pretty formal atmosphere despite the business casual dress, lack of communication within department, lack of willingness to share best practices, maybe too competitive

    Advice to ManagementAdvice
