I worked at Santa Clara University part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great campus, great resources, great coworkers. The school and supervisors are generally very flexible about schedules and are willing to accommodate student employee schedules.

    Cons

The wages for student employees are pretty low. If it weren't for the flexibility in work schedules, I would have sought employment off campus.

    Advice to Management

Pay student workers more. I know high school graduates who get paid at least $2 more per hour without any previous experience or skills.

I have been working at Santa Clara University full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Nice campus and lots of money to spend on parties and outings.

    Cons

I am really surprised at how disfunctional SCU is. While it may be a great place to go to school, the administration and management is very incompetent. The pay is very low. There are people with graduate degrees making $60K- $70K and that's simply unacceptable for this area and for this university.

    Advice to Management

Reevaluate your priorities. Your employees are the greatest asset!

    Pros

On-campus, competitive rate, similiar peers, good teamwork chemistry. Enjoyed working with computers and the downtime it provided for doing homework/reading

    Cons

Shifts are a little irregular, sometimes asked to come in during the weekend for emergencies

    Advice to Management

Offer more shifts broken into smaller sections

I have been working at Santa Clara University full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Beautiful campus, wonderful coworkers, flexible work schedule in some departments. Free use of gym. Most people who work here are genuinely happy to be here.

    Cons

Staff receive among the lowest pay in the area for comparable positions, especially as all positions require at least a bachelors degree, and advanced degrees are preferred.

    Advice to Management

Staff salaries need to be higher, especially for this area. I am only able to work here because my spouse makes a "real" salary.
