I have been working at Santa Clara University part-time (less than a year)

    Pros

-- The best perks for a student: free tuition and getting paid on top of that!
-- Get to mentor some of the brightest students in the Bay.

    Cons

-- Not much in the way of overtime but considering the perks, it doesn't really matter

I have been working at Santa Clara University full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Conveniently located near train and bus stations.

    Cons

Expensive benefits. Very political. Low pay for those with graduate degrees (I've never seen anyone with a masters get paid $48K per year until here). Loose policy and lots of waste.

I have been working at Santa Clara University

    Pros

You get to meet a lot of new people. The people who work along are smart. They provide you with free meal if you work for 4 hours on a roll.

    Cons

Lot of politics in choosing the place to work. Your freedom is limited. Communicating with people of higher rank is prohibitive.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Consider promotions and benefits.

I worked at Santa Clara University full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Work/life balance is very good. Top notch professionals who put students first. Jesuit philosophy creates a true, sustainable social change ethic on campus.

    Cons

Some upper level administrators are kept on despite inconsistent behavior and performance.

I have been working at Santa Clara University full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Beautiful campus. Polite students. Supportive faculty. Moderate support of research in terms of funds. Close community. If you are able to do some research, and not dedicate too much time to all of the possible service opportunities, you can have a nice work/life balance. Family friendly university.

    Cons

No graduate students. The university does not require, or reward, excellence. Many very intelligent faculty have a great deal of time on their hands to be concerned with committees, faculty senate, and student evaluations of teaching. This is fine, but there isn't always the social support to enable strong research because the culture demands a great deal of service. Also, this salaries within the College of Arts and Sciences are low, especially considering the extremely high cost of living in the Silicon Valley right now.

I have been working at Santa Clara University part-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Great, friendly staff in a college environment
Free time to explore your own projects in a relaxed workspace
Available for any and everyone to start their technical learning
    Knowledgeable people on staff

    Cons

Most of the students area little tech ignorant
A little monotonous on the problem solving side, same issues over and over again
    Not enough supplies
    Upper management is very stiff

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop the bean counting. No one wants to receive 3 e-mails per ticket request. Don't compensate for other departments' over budget spending, instead compensate your own workers more appropriately

    Recommends
    Positive Outlook
