I worked at Santa Clara University part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

To get an engineering degree at a school that strongly intertwines technical education with global perspective, social justice, and ethics is truly amazing. To work under professors that live by these codes is a double win. Particularly at campus ministry, they extol these values and encourage involvement of students from all backgrounds and degrees. I personally loved the work dynamic. People got things done, but there was a sense of joy and satisfaction in their work.

    Cons

The campus ministry office gets really busy during religious holidays.

I worked at Santa Clara University part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

It's great interacting with people on the regular, and being of service to them. A fun and stimulating work environment to come in to.

    Cons

This is the best student job on campus, so there are few cons to the position. Wage could be increased for students who have worked there for multiple years.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Work on the Pathway requirement. Even still, nobody takes it seriously.

I have been working at Santa Clara University part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Supportive colleagues; beautiful campus; tremendous opportunity for professional development through workshops, classes, etc. Generous support for academic research even for part-time faculty. Generous compensation for part-time faculty compared to other local institutions.

    Cons

No benefits for part-time faculty, even with extensive teaching loads, contrary to Jesuit social justice values. No job security or stability from quarter to quarter for most lecturers. Affluent bubble mentality makes most faculty and staff oblivious to real economic situations of part-time colleagues who teach for half full-time pay.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Develop a benefit program for part-time faculty teaching 2 or more courses a quarter. Allow for quarterly lecturer renewal in advance of teaching quarter to allow for greater job stability and income predictability. Live the SCU values.

I worked at Santa Clara University full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

My co-workers were friendly team players, with the same goal in mind in serving the students, faculty and staff to the best of their ability, and worked together to reach this common goal.

    Cons

The only con for me was having to resign and move to another state. I am hoping to find the same workplace where I am living now.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I appreciate the loyalty and leadership as well as companionship, which created a positive workplace for all in the Office. Management was compassionate and caring and still lead the team to be sufficient and accurate in the duties assigned to each position.

    Pros

The school has a strong commitment to its students. The school also creates an excellent environment for collegial, academic work.

    Cons

The development and alumni offices are too far away from the main campus and this can at times be problematic.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice
