I have been working at Sauer-Danfoss part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Will work with your schedule, good work-life balance.

    Cons

Work starts too early, but at the same time you get out early.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Starting wage should be higher

    I worked at Sauer-Danfoss full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Good, nice people. Most are trying hard. Compensations and benefits seem to be in-line with industry standards. Good internal training programs. Some departments can be great learning platforms for young professionals.

    Cons

The organization spends too much time planning for unrealistic objectives. Since they never reach those, leaders have to create new, more aggressive, objectives and reorganizations. Leaders are rewarded for trying hard instead of delivering the results. This favors spending hours making powerpoints that looks great instead of satisfying customers.
Probably due to the internal focus, Sauer-Danfoss products and services are not keeping up with competition and they lose market share. As volumes decrease, profits decline and the sales force has to go out for price increases which keep alienating customers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    1) Steady that ship. Stop reorganizing the departments every six months. A lot of us can help this company but keep being interrupted because a new reorganization is suddenly decided.
    2) Create a culture of accountability. Most leaders spend their time creating unrealistic objectives because they are asked to do so and they are not punished when they don't reach them (because everybody knew they were unrealistic in the first place).

    I worked at Sauer-Danfoss full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Decent amount of vacation time that increases with seniority.

    Cons

You can only advance if you are in with the office personnel. Below average pay for the type of work performed. Self-insured insurance would hardly cover anything.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If you make promises to the workers, live up to it.

    I worked at Sauer-Danfoss full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Great engineering experience; the ability to achieve goals with different interests.

    Cons

Small issues with communication and leadership, but really nothing that was a big deal.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Work with time diversity among the shifts, i.e., if you are a first shift facilitator on a line, be open to working with and/or advising those on the other shifts-no hierarchy.

I have been working at Sauer-Danfoss full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Sauer-Danfoss offers a competitive salary, even though its benefits package has been cost optimized over the last 5 years to bolster profits.

    Cons

After the merger in 2002 Sauer-Danfoss had a great culture, respected employees and family, but since then has spiraled down to a financially based machine in 2012 that uses employees, chews them up, and spits them out at any cost for bottom line profits. As they become a Danfoss only brand in 2013 to satisfy owner Mr. Clausen, this corporate machine will only progress as centralized functions are absorbed into Denmark, and non-centralized good employees and families will be left in his wake.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Care about employees.

    I worked at Sauer-Danfoss full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Great people to work with, challenging work, and opportunities for advancement. Salary was fair for Ames,Ia. Technology systems were current. Good work/life balance with the company - long days were the outliers.

    Cons

Politics were obvious in some areas. Poor middle management for reviews, performance feedback. Some areas did not pull their weight with the company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Erase middle management politics.

    Pros

Supportive environment, forward thinking management, committed to continuous improvement, decent benefits. Internal talent is nurtured, though sometimes opportunities are limited.

    Cons

Drive for change sometimes leads to decisions that may not meet long term best interests of the business, occasional penchant for flavor of the month programs handed down by upper management.
