I worked at Save Mart full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The Save Mart Corporation, for the most part, is good and populated by good, hard working talented people. The owner and some of the other "C" letters are good people. Overall: Good Company

    Cons

A good amount of the management have been promoted or hired based on the "peter principle" and have reached their level of capacity. They are justifiably afraid for their positions because they marginally merit them. If they make a mistake, more often than not, one of the employees pays for it. Training is missing because they are afraid to invest in their people. An employee can work for them for years, performing all that is asked of them and more and in time, they may be rewarded or scapegoated. HR is complicit with this mindset. Overall: Be wary

    Advice to Management

Cherish your people, they are your greatest asset. If there is a mistake with no malice, then invest in their loyalty and train them. Do not discard your good people.

I have been working at Save Mart full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Good people to work with, short commute.

    Cons

Middle management is horrible, no accountability, takes credit for things they didn't do, doesn't give credit where/when it is due. Finance in particular has incompetent managers and supervisors, no body checks on them their word is gospel and Upper management believes everything the supervisor/manager says with out checking with employees

    Advice to Management

Talk to the people who actually do the work!

I worked at Save Mart part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

-SaveMart is a great workplace for entry level employees; highschool students or young college students paying for class. -Sometimes the pain of the daily grind (of bad customers) and doing go-backs forms a bond of unity between workers.

    Cons

Part timers will not be able to partake in positions that pay more, which is the only reason why staying at the store would be worth it. Union membership is forced, and the charge you an arm and a leg every paycheck. It is a flat rate, and if you work less hours, it hurts more. Union membership also means good workers are not rewarded, nor bad workers punished.

    Advice to Management

Award raises based on merit, and hire more managers who have a spine. Also, upgrade your technology to the 21st century. Your cashiers have difficulty with the scanners because the computers powering them seem to have approximately 0.5gb RAM on Windows 2000.

    Pros

Great employees who care about what they do Decent pay for area Good benefits for those that can afford them

    Cons

Inconsistent hiring and promotion practices You get promoted more on who you know than by what you know. Don't upset the club, you'll get passed over

    Advice to Management

Walk the talk. People are watching when you don't keep your promises or follow your own rules.

I worked at Save Mart full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The only positive pro I have for this company is the people that work there. It seems like every department is a small family, and IT was just one big family.

    Cons

Wages, Management, Old way of thinking, Old dress code, SaveMart should only be viewed as a stepping stone.

    Advice to Management

Hire Leaders not Bosses. Management needs to be relevant to the field the overseeing.
