So close to something great, but missing the mark.

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsPay is good. Company does some things very well. Overall one of the better employers I have worked for.

ConsCareer advancement is almost non-existent unless you want to move to St. Louis. Tends to have great visions, but is unwilling to invest the resources necessary to achieve them.

Advice to Senior ManagementThere is a lot of ignored talent in the company. Learn to use it!

    no leadership

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

Prosmost people in the office are nice.
    Good business strategy.

Conslack of leadership and accountability kill this company slowly. High pressure environment with no clear direction creates frustration. Most of the management team are more concern about keep their jobs than about improve the business. This push the best people out and eventually the company left with low performers.

Advice to Senior ManagementStart from the top. replace managers with leaders.

    terrible business decisions

    Sales Executive (Current Employee)

Prossome good products - many talented people

Conssenior execs are out of element. hiring many more sales people in 2014 but not hiring people that help get the deal closed - engineers, legal and delivery - DO NOT COME TO WORK HERE AS A SALES PERSON - company makes numbers due to really large deals closed here and there. but only 33% of sales force is at plan = and they are hiring many more reps - 1980's sales strategy - not making the numbers? then hire more reps!

Advice to Senior Managementbring in senior people who know how to build a salesforce for this industry. CFO's typically cannot run sales organizations.

Some good folks, but a disaster waiting to happen

    Product Management Director (Former Employee)

ProsThey have a nice suite of Cloud offerings, and a killer list of marquee customers

ConsInternal processes are probably 10-15 years behind the curve. Operations is a train wreck. Don't hold your breathe if you actually have a customer that needs a complex environment on line in less than 4-6 months

Advice to Senior ManagementPeople outside of Missouri actually can have valuable input. You should listen to them occasionally. The MO good ole boy network is not the ultimate font of knowledge..

Great People to work with, just need more people

    Cloud Product Manager (Current Employee)
    Saint Louis, MO

ProsGreat People. Great Technology. Working as best they can to take the technology and services to the next level.

ConsHugely understaffed with the amount of work and growth they are experiencing. Products are slow to market and with all the features needed due to overloaded staff.

Advice to Senior ManagementHire more people and fast. Too much Work in Progress, prevents focus to get work completed and provide high quality.

Good Company. Unmatched technology for the Midwest.

    Engineer (Current Employee)
    Saint Louis, MO

ProsNot another company like them in the Midwest. They have huge clients. They offer the best technology to customers. Global support teams.

ConsBig clients get what they want to the detriment of uniformity. Overworked and under appreciated at times.

Advice to Senior ManagementPush hard to create simple and uniform products. Start naming products in simple and uniform terms.

Savvis - Worst place I've ever worked.

    Security Operations Manager (Former Employee)
    Saint Louis, MO

Pros- It is possible to find some talented engineers, if you look long enough.
    - You'll get to observe poor management first hand, and know how to quickly identify it in the future.
    - You'll get to experience a company run by the "good 'ol boys", so you'll be able to identify and avoid a Good-'ol-boys company in the future.
    - After six months, you'll begin having lots of good things to say about that last position that you left.
    - If you hire in as Management at Savvis, your lying skills will be developed to the point of expertise.

ConsThe Operations Center is an absolutely abysmal place to work.

Personal Opinion: If you are a Security Engineer, You will hurt your career by listing a position in the Savvis "SOC" on your resume. It's that bad.

Managers, Directors and VP's are among the worst I've ever seen, anywhere.
Far too much Departmental in-fighting, Lying for success and Corporate "Spin".

Senior Management knows how dysfunctional Operations at the mid-level and the tech front lines and has done nothing to correct it.

Advice to Senior Management- Nuke the Operations Center Management Team from Manager level up. Start over with Operations and Security management that has industry experience outside of Savvis.

Good company - well positioned. Future is TBD.

    Director (Current Employee)
    Washington, DC

ProsObjectively speaking, the company has a nice portfolio of managed services that are on par or better than the competition. The culture is good - sales org is a lot of fun and good work atmosphere. As are the service teams.

ConsDysfunctional in the delivery and ops side of the house.

Advice to Senior ManagementGet real about financials. Company needs to invest into R&D to mature it's product set and get to market more quickly. Also needs to focus on profitability - or at least have a plan for it.

    My Favorite St. Louis Company!

    Software Engineer (Current Employee)
    Saint Louis, MO

ProsExcellent management. Ethical corporation. Lots of long-term employees who know a lot about the company and where it needs to go, mixed with a new and enthusiastic bunch of Agile teams.

ConsParent company (CenturyLink) doesn't share the Savvis vision. In the long run, the Savvis dedication to excellence may be diluted by CenturyLink's dedication to mediocrity.

Advice to Senior ManagementDon't fix what isn't broken!
