I have been working at Schafer Corp.

    Pros

Salary was competitive. Enjoyed the contract I was working on. My teammates at the time were smart, hard working and fun.

    Cons

Advancement can take some time. If you aren't a contractor making the company money, or part of the company core mission, jobs can fluctuate.

I worked at Schafer Corp. full-time

    Pros

You don't have to interact with any of the clueless management or corporate people if you don't want to.

    Cons

    1. cutting benefits every year
    2. have to get $50 purchases approved at VP level for training materials
    3. clueless HR
    4. salary and benefits are average for a defense contractor
    5. all the good first line employees are jumping ship to other defense contractors

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop cutting employee benefits and using the company money to fund your off-site meetings at resorts.

Why does the CEO have 7 academic degrees? Sounds like a guy who can't make up his mind.

I worked at Schafer Corp. full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Working at Schafer is all about the co-workers and the great opportunities to really do something you can be proud of.

    Cons

Schafer's distributed (and diverse) operations mean that not one management size fits all. In my short stay we had a parade of CEOs, CFOs and managers - none of whom could satisfactorily overcome the lost their small business status and subsequently much of their Government business.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Sell the company to another small business or watch your company (and investment) wither away.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep your employees up to date with the direction that the company is going as well as with the status of big contract awards.

    Pros

Albuquerque office staff are great! Easy to work with, supportive, team players.

I worked at Schafer Corp. full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    Company social outings. Holiday party.

    Cons

Management. Turnover rate. I have seen several exceptional employees be fired from Schafer, while there are "managers" with absolutely no training, making six figures, not showing up to work, teleworking when not allowed, not communicating and doing a poor job as a manager getting away with it, because their bosses choose to not listen to the employees opinions.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You need to train your managers before you put them in this role. Higher someone with experience, not someone who is just willing to do the job. Very few opportunites to grow. I spoke to my PM's boss informing him of everything going on and he did NOTHING to fix the situation.

I have been working at Schafer Corp. full-time

    Pros

Solid support staff and very professional employee base. Good pay easy access to top management.

    Cons

Very outdated technology and excessive turnover of parent company management. Private equity owners are aggressive

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stick around and try to build the team you have hired. Turnover is killing operating efficiency and creates uncertainty among employees.
