Pros
Lots of potential to learn different job functions. The pay scale is reasonable based on the work performed, but advancement opportunities are limited.
Cons
There is never a good time to take off. The company is still in the growth phases. Disconnect between Corporate and the sites.
Advice to Senior Management
More work life balance. Overall, fair assessment and treatment of employees. The growth of the company in NA is desirable.
Pros
large company with very extensive scale. Can have internal opportunites but it seems that good divisions vary immensely especialluy form country to country
Cons
very cliqueish, limited training, management always skews information to their favour if they ahare anything meaningful at all. clinical and highly untrusting environment
Advice to Senior Management
you are not qualified to manage people.
Pros
If you are one of the handpicked/in good books/favored upon staff (even with no to low experience), your future here is bright. Opportunites and roads are paved for you, special considerations given to you, what others cannot get- you will not be denied.
If you are fresh out of school and are looking for job experience.
If you just want to work a 9-5 job daily with no desire to advance.
If you like working long hours.
Cons
Managment seeks feedback from staff, at best they send out surveys after surveys and that's it. No changes made, no "work in progress" information.
Talent managment program is only opened to a selected few. How or why those few are chosen, it's a secret.
Training programs are not opened to all staff. Unless you are handpicked by the higher ups. Even if someone desires to improve, management cites budget constraints and snuff out your request, unless you are the chosen ones.
Upper management does not pass down directions. Everything is behind close doors. Feels like management treats staff as commodity.
No possibility of career advancement, unless you want to slog like crazy and work insane hours just to prove you are something. Feels like willingness to work overtime = good employee. Those who leave at 5pm do not have alot of work to do.
Advice to Senior Management
There is a reason why your company is constantly losing our customers. Relook at your strategy. Don't keep changing your mind at what you want. Old blood (employees who are there 10+ years) doesn't mean much in this new era of freight forwarding - give them opportunities to grow. If the company needs to progress, you need fresh ideas and be opened to a different way of managing. You are not what you were 10 years ago.
Pros
employee's very friendly,good parking lot
Cons
Total confusion with a lack of direction
Advice to Senior Management
communication
Pros
The supervisors do care about their employees. They make an effort to accommodate the needs of their employees in regards to school, family, appointments, etc.
Cons
The pay is below industry standards. The communication and direction from corporate is almost non-existant.
Advice to Senior Management
A direction needs to be determined by the executives and rolled out to employees. Communicate.
Pros
DB Schenker has a strong Inside Sales program. This is where you will want to work if you decide to work for this company.
Cons
Lousy pay considering the territory I was working as an Account Executive. Unachievable bonuses in field sales. Some very incompetent people that should not be in the position they have. I was lied to about a position I decided to take. And when I discussed my thoughts and feelings about the role (I was lied to about) I was laid off. DB Schenker USA is a very cheap company and refuses to spend the money on necessities such as Base Salary's and necessary equipment needed to be successful. For example, I was issued an old and beat up lap top when I was promoted to Field Sales. After 3 months of dealing with IT, it was still not fully functional. How can you expect one to produce when we don't have the ability to log into the systems we need to operate on a daily basis, while working field sales. No support in Field Sales. You're left out in the field running around like a chicken with its head cut off. This company operates in a VERY UNPROFESSIONAL manner. A 35 Billion dollar company operating like a "Mom and Pap" start up. No wonder DB Schenker is losing market share to the competition. I would recommend/advise future candidates to stay away from DB Schenker as a potential employer.
Advice to Senior Management
To attract the qualified Inside Sales Reps desired, you need to offer a higher base salary and a better bonus structure. You need to pay your Account Executives in the field a fair market value. You need to treat your employees better. We are the driving force behind your profits.
Pros
Nice co-workers
Workers give it their all even though they know it is not appreciated
Knowledgeable employees
Cons
Management says they want feedback but never listen. It is their way or else.
Employees are treated like slaves. There is no work life balance and management does not care.
Complain and they will make you pay.
Advice to Senior Management
Take courses in management. Having the knowledge does not make you a manager. Stop treating your hourly employees as if you own them. Why do you think they are leaving? Everyone wants to be treated like a human. Top management is aware of the problems but choose to turn a blind eye to all of the problems. They are all managers in name only.
Pros
Recognized name on the international market
Cons
No respect to employees
Low salary
Management has no strategic vision
Advice to Senior Management
Resign
Pros
The other employee's are the only thing worth turning up for each day. I have met and work with some really wonderful people.
Cons
There is no real opportunities in Schenker to progress. You may be offered a higher title, but they do not offer the money to go with the position. You are expected to manage staff for the same money as the people you are suposed to be leading.
Advice to Senior Management
Don't treat your staff like slaves. All that is expected is to produce more, work harder and make the company look good without passing on any rewards to the people on the floor who are breaking their backs. Why not pass something on to the staff?????
Pros
Open door policy with immediate supervisor
Tight-knit groups inside each department
Good benefits
Training for basic knowledge in customer services and computer programs
Cons
Overlapping tasks inside and outside departments
Total disconnect from upper management
Low pay
Lack of motivation
Small oportunity for growth
Management opportunities are filled with people from outside promoting from within is rare
Boring tasks
Long work hours
Advice to Senior Management
Management needs to be more involved in the daily activities
