Schering-Plough Financial Analyst in Roseland, NJ:   (Past Employee - 2008)

Pros

This company is a great place to work. I enjoyed the team atmosphere and I felt that I had a lto of opportunities to grow.

Cons

The workload at this company was sometimes hard to manage. At times I would find myself working from home every night and weekend.

Advice to Senior Management

The managers at your company need to focus more on training. They also need to spend mroe one on one tim eiwth each employee.

Schering-Plough Sales Representative in Brooklyn, NY:   (Current Employee)

Pros

Great company with wonderful products. The management varies depending on which division you are in and the geography.

Cons

currently being bought by Merck and unsure of the future.

Advice to Senior Management

The leadership is strong at Schering-Plough and they are in a tough situation. At the moment, the only advice I have is to fight for the team you have currently during this merger/acquisition.

Schering-Plough Associate Manager in Kenilworth, NJ:   (Current Employee)

Pros

Remuneration - Salary compensation (as part of the pharmaceutical industry) is above average. People looking to increase their compensation should consider positions within pharma.

Cons

Combative environment - Due to some difficult events about six years ago, the culture of Schering Plough has changed. Unfortunately, these changes have had a negative influence on the culture, however has allowed the company (in revenue terms) to prosper.

Advice to Senior Management

Sell the company and allow people to make decisions about moving on.

Pros

Compensation is higher than industry average.

There is very little chance of termination for incompetence

It is nearly impossible to be uniquesly responsible for failure.

Work hours are not excessive

Cons

Very little overall technical competence

Demonstrated excellence is largely ignored

The decision-making process is ridiculous

It is an unispiring environment

Advice to Senior Management

Show some ownershipand value those that do show it. Stop celebrating simple execution of job responsibilities and start creating some challenges.

Schering-Plough Finance Manager in Summit, NJ:   (Current Employee)

Pros

The people in your group, direct management tends to very supportive. They focus on potential and upward growth.

Cons

HR. HR is not supportive and only looking out for dollars not people. HR is hard to trust and will not look out for the best interested in of the people they “support.” They only care about showing the CEO how they saved, even if it negatively effects a department or person.

Advice to Senior Management

They need to empower the organization. Stop approving every $5 invoice and start worry about the bigger picture. If they work for you trust them to do the right thing, if you don’t trust them they should not work for you. There are better ways to manage control then taking it all way.

Schering-Plough Senior Scientist in Kenilworth, NJ:   (Current Employee)

Pros

No one knows if you are working or not. It's a "WallyWorld". Good severance packages coming when Merck cut all of our jobs, Just ride thewave until the severances come. 6 months of pay...

Cons

No management direction. The best have already been fired in the name of cost cutting. The management that is left is deluded into thinking that anything they do now matters. Hello--You have been bought out. Your job is over! No one likes each other or even speaks. It is as bad as anyone could ever imagine. The place sucks!!!

Advice to Senior Management

Sell, They listened!!!

Schering-Plough Senior Product Manager in Mexico City, The Federal District (Mexico):   (Current Employee)

Pros

Professionalism, big & respected company.

Cons

Unclear carrer path, there is no planing for mid management

Advice to Senior Management

Because Schering Plough has a lean company structure themid management segment is large and has no clear view of their opportunities, this factor contributes on the lossing of great talent.

Schering-Plough Manager in Kenilworth, NJ:   (Current Employee)

Pros

Pays well, reasonable work/life balance and in general, people are nice.

Cons

Extremely political - for career advancement you have to brown nose the correct people, which are few and far between. Promotions are not based on skill set but rather who you know.

Advice to Senior Management

The leadership behaviors are viewed as lip service by the people who actually do the work and we would appreciate it if you stopped insulting our intelligence.
