I have been working at Schindler Elevator Corporation full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Overall a very good experience. A lot of good people in the department with positive attitudes. Teamwork is stressed and rewarded.

    Cons

Somewhat stressful to meet deadlines. A heavy workload but so far hard work has been appreciated and rewarded.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continuing to reward employees that go above and beyond. Some limitations in work like balance.

I have been working at Schindler Elevator Corporation as an intern (less than a year)

    Pros

    Team great
Sales dynamic especially in the high rise segment
New change of leadership is putting the company on the right track

    Cons

    Very Swiss and conservative thinking
    No customer involvement
Extremely technical designs and hierarchy need to be a mechanical engineer to have any chance of promotion

I have been working at Schindler Elevator Corporation full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Good pay from the beginning, however pay raises and promotions will bring insufficient increases. There is good flexibility in your schedule and as long as you get your job done, there are few complaints.

    Cons

Employees are hardly approached about career advancement- you have will have to apply for promotions and most likely move. Also not a very great company culture. Small branches with few employees in each, no company functions other than a holiday party or two each year. Worst part in my opinion is that you get limited experience in general job functions. It would be difficult to switch industries with such specific experience.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Schindler continues to hire expensive consultants with no industry experience that tell us how to improve our business. MBAs that have an impressive education but no elevator experience are not the answer. If we developed internal "task forces" or departments to develop/implement change and improvement, it would go a long way with employees and produce better results.

I have been working at Schindler Elevator Corporation full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Excellent benefits, lots of advancement opportunities.

    Cons

Micromanaging is becoming more prevalent. Seeing more and more outside consulting firms coming in. Not listening to long tenured employees feedback for process improvement. Seems to be going through a culture change of hiring more outside and not promoting from within

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Forget the consultants, listen to your tenured employees who have made the company successful for so long. Update the tools and technology to today's market to allow the employees and customers to provide the top service in the industry.

I have been working at Schindler Elevator Corporation full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Great teams in most offices that are truly concerned with your personal development. Although it seems as if upper management is disconnected from the true day-to-day pressures of operations, most of the management is very knowledgable of the challenges.

    Cons

It seems as if the management team prefers hiring from outside rather than promoting from within. Experience with a competitor is more valuable than years of proven performance within.

Upper management can do a better job of communicating long term goals and agendas so that initiatives are greeted with local support rather than just "another action item from corporate".

I have been working at Schindler Elevator Corporation full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

    Good pay for field techs,
Every tech I know truly cares about his work quality and feels that the customer is still number one.

    Cons

Management from the top down could care less about our customers.
Huge layoffs/cutbacks have created service/repair backlogs and in return moral has hit rock bottom among over-worked field techs. New field link is useless. Parts are ordered by techs and we are told "it's not in the budget for this month"
Meanwhile, poor Mr. Customer who is paying huge bucks for full a maint contract suffers and his elevaotr is down for weeks.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get back to basics. Your company is all about fixing elevators, not you climbing the corporate ladder.
Let techs run their routes like they used to (and everyone was always happy including our customers)

    Pros

For an inter, pay is well. It is a very boring environment with minimal play time and managements decisions is sometimes questionable.

    Cons

its a great place to work except near by roads are very backed up in the morning, also it is a dead end job with no climbing in the company
