    Pros

The compamy take great care of its employees, very flexible hours in research facilities, competitive salary, extremely friendly collegues, full of talented scientists

    Cons

In general it's a great company to work for, but it carries a very traditional culture, feels lack of excitement, food in cafeteria is not the best...you do a very specific type of job here in research, thus instead of broadening your research experience, it actually narrows down your future choices.

    Advice to Management

I think the management is doing a good job, there is not much that I want to say here, they are the largest in its field, they certainly have the advantage to hire the most talented people.

    Pros

The balance between work and lift is good. People are nice. It's more research like, so the schedule is flexible. It's a great place to learn and gain experience.

    Cons

The opening in the research center is limited, you only get in when someone else quit.

  6. Research scientist in one of the applied research departments

Former Employee - Principal Research Scientist in Cambridge, MA

    I worked at Schlumberger full-time

    Pros

SDR gives its scientists access to excellent research resources. They are provided with a fair amount of latitude to explore topics of interest to them, but the results are evaluated critically in terms of successful migration into new oil field measurement tools. To succeed in the organization, the research needs to eventually lead to new revenue for the company.

    Cons

SDR is biased towards physical scientists and away from engineers. Engineers have much more support in Sugar Land.

    Pros

    Strong belief in technology.
    Lots of young energetic colleagues.
    International opportunities.
    Colleagues are very diverse.
    Strong belief in merit.

    Cons

Like many oilfield companies, facing issues with bimodal age distribution.
Have to get used to paying attention to one's own career.

    Pros

I worked in the research division. And it was a very good work experience. Flexible schedule, freedom to choose your own research path, good interaction with boss, problem oriented work with a good sense of direction... Loved the internship! Good pay too.

    Cons

Coming from a math background, there weren't too many colleagues in the same field. Most other interns worked in labs.

  9. A great company to spend the Summer with as an intern. And a better place to make a career afterwards.

I worked at Schlumberger as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

If you intern here it will open so many doors for you afterwards. Schlumberger interns are highly valued in the field and having it on your resume and a strong rec. is extremely valuable.

    Cons

There is a significant crunch period previous to finishing. Although that may be group specific.
