Pros
Good pay; lots of locations to work at; lots of great people you would probably never meet otherwise.
Cons
Constantly struggled to have enough engineers for busy seasons; don't expect to have much of a life outside of work
Advice to Senior Management
More long-term planning would help a lot.
Pros
I got hands on experience of working on PLC and other automation products , work environment was great and people are helping
Cons
it is too much work and also much pressure from supervisor . working hours are not fixed . they will call u on weekend also .
Pros
It is probably the best company to start in the oilfield. Exposure to different jobs, cultures and locations
Cons
The usual bureaucracy of any big corporation
Advice to Senior Management
None
Pros
The starting pay is good, and at first it seems like the schedule is awesome, but you'll soon learn that everything changes once you sign on the line.
They preach a set way to be promoted and that if you are motivated you will move up quickly. However this depends mostly on management, and if you have a bad manager good luck progressing.
There is also the illusion of traveling everywhere, and while some do, most won't leave their home county, even if you express desire to get ahead, and travel.
Many interns and new people don't experience the downsides and are only shown the good side.
Cons
Most locations are crappy. Maybe 1% of the locations are nice places you actually would want to live.
Most managers move up because they were friends with past managers, leaving you with someone who doesn't know anything, and has no compassion when you have a sick relative or need to take vacation.
You accumulate a set amount of vacation and it is use it or lose it, but regularly you are not allowed to take vacation when you need it. After 2 years working there I personally have used 5 vacation days. I plan vacation then all of a sudden I am needed and there goes my plans.
Family is not possible, there is no work/life balance even though they promote that it is important.
Other service companies pay more and treat you better. There is no job security, and most feel like they can be fired at any moment. I regularly work over 100 hours a week and if you calculate the pay to be hourly you are actually getting around $12ish an hour.
I personally have had many ups and downs with the company. When it is good it is great, and when it is bad, you feel like you are living a nightmare.
Advice to Senior Management
Quit telling people we are lucky to have jobs, just because you are a manager doesn't mean you aren't lucky to have a job either.
Let people advance if they are motivated, or see ways to improve the process. You are not only hurting the motivation and moral you are hurting your future numbers.
Pros
Significant career opportunities; international exposure;
Cons
Salary is not as competitive as it should be
Pros
Active. Good communication. Good fringe benefits
Cons
Unstable job, less salary, need better office conditions
Advice to Senior Management
Similar level of salary comparing to other companies in this industry
Pros
Lot's of career opportunities
Good knowledge sharing
Cons
Service company
Do whatever you have to do to satisfy the client
Advice to Senior Management
Why give advice? It falls on deaf ears
Pros
Good place to work, decent benefits for a service company
Cons
If you get stuck in a slow segment, your career will take a hit.
Advice to Senior Management
Stop changing managers so many times, give people time to settle in their new roles.
Pros
1. Excellent benefits and compensation
2. Multinational exposure
3. Opportunities to travel to many many countries
4. If someone is interested in the oilfield sector, Schlumberger is the best place to be.
Cons
1. Less professionalism at workplace as compared to other MNCs.
2. Forget about a balanced life. Your vacations are decided by when you're needed or not, and not by your preferences to take leaves on holidays and special occasions.
3. Prepare to be a lonely traveller.
4. Harsh offshore environment.
Advice to Senior Management
Surprisingly observed no professionalism in the senior most levels of management.
Learn to be fair to all employees, irrespective of personal prejudice.
Pros
Schlumberger is the top service company, will provide Engineers with great training programs during the first 3 years. Gives the opportunity to travel and know places that you never expected and meet and work with people in a very diverse community
Cons
Sometimes you work for more than 24 hours non stop. Most probably you will miss some important family occasions, and you will work under stress conditions
Advice to Senior Management
For leadership at Schlumberger you have to be self motivated, focus on the objectives and goals. You have to learn how to listen and be proactive more than reactive
