A good way to start a career BUT They own you! Prepare to leave after a few years

    Positioning Seismic Engineer (Former Employee)
    London, England (UK)

ProsGreat trainings, very professional, organised, takes HSE seriously, they ensure that you know everything about your job to the running principles and physics fundamentals.

ConsThey own you. Ridiculous learning modules that takes up your time during off shift, makes you go through stupid G11 control programme along with a one year project that must benefit the company. Better off doing a 1 year Masters programme for yourself! Not compassionate, too appraisal driven, harassment policy is a joke, if you report they turn it around and blame you for it! The worst salary in the industry of seismic. Fast track seismic engineer programme is a real joke, trying to make managers in 3 years and make you work a like a dog. 5 weeks on board, 3 weeks office time and less than 2 weeks off ?! Work 8 weeks and MAYBE 2 weeks off.

Advice to Senior ManagementYour SE programme is a disaster. It is obviously not working. SE turnover rate is really high. Analyse the numbers and stop being in denial. Learning modules shouldn't be given so much focus.

ProsFrom day one you are being integrated as a true employee. Schlumberger is very keen on giving and potential growth are massive and available worldwide.

ConsSchlumberger is so not shown any drawbacks. Personal is very focused on what they are doing but balanced offering a social side.

Advice to Senior ManagementManagement is awesome and relaxed. No pressure is felt and very open discussion on every topic. One of the best I ever found so far.

    Great company

    Research Intern (Current Employee)
    London, England (UK)

Proslife long learning, big money, you get to travel. A family friendly company, and you will get all the support you can for relocation. You get a real responsibility from day one, however there is always someone who is ready to help if you get stuck.
Very good knowledge share base. If you have a specific porblem, you can reach to any emplyee of schlumberger worldwide to benefit from his experience.

ConsRequires very hard work on the expense of your persnal life. Other companies can still pay more than schlumberger for similar tasks. The HR should more fair and open minded.

Advice to Senior Managementbe humble and talk to your emplyees directly

    Schlumberger as a trainee

    Field Engineer Trainee (Current Employee)
    London, England (UK)

ProsDiversity of workplace, an excellent career path and ability to develop at own pace.
Starting as a trainee, you will have a clear expectancy, tasks and time of how and when you will be promoted. Compensation and medical insurance is top-notch, although personal-performance is not a big factor until a person reaches the GFE status.

ConsNot much of work/life balance. Due to being a service company, we have to adapt to our client's needs and hence this may result in alot of work hours at different times of the day/week/year. Including weekends and public holidays. Sometimes language-barrier is an issue at some locations.

In the start though, expect to do alot of non-related work such as painting, cleaning and maintenance where you will be wondering "am I actually paid to do such tasks?" but after first school things start to kick up.

Advice to Senior ManagementSome locations require more input from management, especially when low-grade employees are not looked after well. Also, at time where there is a huge workload, management should keep an eye on people who are totally fatigued and give them a bit of time off.
