Pros
Schneider National does an excellent job with training. They also keep money in your pocket while your training. I enjoyed driving for Schneider National
Cons
Schneider National could have paid more attention to the fact that I was a new driver and tried to send me on easier trips first then ease me in the the routes ment for more experienced drivers. Getting through to the DM was a nightmare.
Advice to Senior Management
I suggest Schneider hire more DM's to assist with the heavy call volume they have. Especially for the new drivers.
Pros
starter company only, get your 6 months or year in and run off..
Cons
low pay,no home time 34 hour your right back on the road..
Advice to Senior Management
drivers need better wages, and more home time and better equipment to preform thier job...
Pros
The company is stable and has many positions available for prospective job seekers. Green Bay is a great place to work.
Cons
There is not a lot of room for advancement for me at the moment. This is a major concern of mine at this time.
Advice to Senior Management
Take care of the great associates you have. Make sure that you recognize potential leaders and make sure to keep them.
Pros
decent pay- a lot of pride about what they do coming down from leadership- do a great job helping the associate balance work life
Cons
not a gratifying job- very tense work environment- leader tends to hand pick when it comes to getting promotions withing the copmany
Advice to Senior Management
listen the more tenured associates that helped the company grow- make sure that the drivers are more than just a number
Pros
Great environment, always learning, very busy, great pay for the area, management is very willing to talk about advancement opportunities.
Cons
Management hand picks promotions, great deal of favoritism in all scopes of the business, some managers can become downright petty (whereas others have a firm understanding of their workforce).
Advice to Senior Management
Favoritism is disruptive towards morale of the workforce in general and can plant seeds of dissent among otherwise satisfied employees.
Pros
SNI operating centers are welcoming. The clean showers, and free laundry facilities are appreciated. The fuel desk staff at most of the operating centers are friendly, helpful, and often go above and beyond to help drivers passing through.
Cons
Team leaders constantly talk about how important it is for drivers to "communicate, communicate, communicate" but they do not communicate with us. Insurance benefits are far below mid-market for the industry. Bonus pay is impossible to earn unless you are willing to sacrifice personal comfort and time at home. I was told I would run at least 2500 miles per week and often barely get 1000. Two extra days out this past week got me up to 2300. No raises to drivers who do not earn two quarterly bonuses, and no pay for empty miles home. So dead heading me 90+ miles home counts as out-of-route miles which will (along with idle hours to stay cool enough to rest during breaks or long waits for loading or unloading) disqualify me for any bonus. Hold times on the phone can often last 15 to 30 minutes. Phones calls are routed to support shift too early each day. Customer information is too often lacking correct information such as contact phone numbers, whether or not parking is allowed on site, appt. times are given for companies who work on a fcfs basis, and on and on it goes.
Advice to Senior Management
Stop over loading our leaders. Too many of them complain of the increased work load with no increased compensation. Too many really good people have been let go and replaced with lesser qualified, lower paid, "yes" people. We have been told "this is no longer a family business". None of us believe you when you say "safety first" or "we appreciate our drivers". Actions speak louder than words. Our boards push us to give up time at home so they can make their numbers and earn their bonuses. Say what you mean and mean what you say. Whoever wrote that the one "con" of the company is all the inside promotions that then seem to cause large turnovers in certain departments is totally unbelievable. The huge turnover comes from being lied to about everything.
Pros
time off is decent ,hardly ever see upper management,
Cons
once was a good company untill don schneider left then it went downhill fast they treat employees like crap no respect at all tell everyone what a booming year were having untill its time for raises then there is no money for that promote people thats in the click but knows nothing about there job.straight from managments mouth this is not a family company anymore.nothing but bad decisions, heads are to big they dont want to hear any suggestions there always right and did i mention they treat employees like crap
Advice to Senior Management
take your big bucks you made off the hard backbreaking employees and retire before you destroy the company
Pros
- The people are fantastic.
- The management is willing to be open minded when listening to suggestions.
- The technology is cutting edge.
-Flexibility
Cons
- If I had to pick one negative aspect about the company, it would be that because people are encouraged to move within the company, it often leads to a high rate of turnover in some positions.
Advice to Senior Management
Keep looking at the future and continue to follow in the footsteps of Al and Dan Schneider. They had a great vision!
Pros
The work was ok depending on the account. Downside to OTR is your out 2 weeks with 2 days off. Regional means your in the Northeast alot but they do route you home every week. There are accounts where you are home daily. I had a couple of really good driver managers and one really bad one. The pay is ok $800-$1000 per week.
Cons
Some of the driver managers play favorites with drivers.
Pros
-There are opportunities to do other jobs and for advancement
-Many different work schedules available
-Good ethics and committment to be a safe company
-In general good people to work with
-Progressive company - always looking to improve and looking to the future
-Treats employees with respect overall
-Other than medical has decent benefits including dental, life insurance, legal, vision, discount programs, decent time off, and reimbursement accounts
Cons
-Medical benefits are poor. They used to be good, but in recent years have gotten worse. The out of pocket detuctible used to be $500 for a family then 80/20 kicked in. Now, the out of pocket detuctible is a staggering $4600 for a family before 80/20 kicks in. This is the primary reason I am looking for another job.
-Tends to layoff people with senority because it costs more to keep them on. It is cheaper to hire a person off the street than to have a person on the payroll with 20 years of experience.
-High turnover. This is in part because there are many different jobs that you can move around the company in, which is a good thing. However, then no one really gets to know how to do their job and there is a consistent stream of new people who really don't know what to do. Also, this is in part due to the previous mention of laying off people who have been around for a long time.
-Poor training. Basically you sit in for a while with someone and then get thrown into the job so you can learn "by fire." There are some training manuels, but they are not updated frequently.
Advice to Senior Management
Offer decent medical benefits to full and part time employees. Stop laying off experienced people who do a good job. Customers are tired of talking to people who don't know what is going on. Get a decent training program. One week of onboarding doesn't cut it.
