Very good company to work for

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
Indianapolis, IN

I worked at Schneider

ProsServant-led organization, focused on people's success (both client and employee), loyal customer base, staff is dedicated to serving the customer, room for advancement, challenging, always has a "never say no" attitude.

ConsMany long days and weeks, tough to balance work/personal life. The "never say no" attitude contributes to this. Hit hard by the economic recession.

Advice to Senior ManagementKeep embracing and teaching servant leadership. Stay close to the roots of the company, don't grow the canopy too far beyond them. Hire for servant-leadership culture match as much as is possible; in many cases, this is more important than technical abilities.

It's all about the almighty dollar with them

Driver (Current Employee)
Columbia, SC

I have been working at Schneider full-time for less than a year

ProsSchneider will hire anyone with any or no experience.

ConsThey first tell you that you can make up to $60000 a year. You start out at 28 cents a mile. You average about 2000 miles a week. At 52 weeks a year...you figure it out. To make that kind of money you would have to work for Schneider for 20 years and I've spoken to drivers that have and they don't make anywhere near that much ($20000 less a year). After you get raises your miles go down. They lose so many drivers before a year is up because they get no miles. They constantly hire new (inexperienced) drivers because they don't want to pay the extra money for experienced drivers. New drivers get a lot of miles at first because they're cheaper to pay than old ones. The dispatchers (DBL's) do not care about your problems or miles. They are taught the things to say to you to keep you quiet. It's really bad. I've almost completed my 1st year with them and I'm looking for another company.

Advice to Senior ManagementGet back to what old drivers tell me Schneider used to be. They used to take care of the drivers. Now it seems it's all about making the dollar.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

Great,one on one workout problems

Driver (Current Employee)
Columbus, OH

I have been working at Schneider

ProsThey keep their word as long as you don't try to pull a con game. Give it to them straight and they will try to work with you.

ConsFor a family man too much time away from family and friends. They will try to route you through the house if you give them enough time in advance.

Advice to Senior Managementkeep up the one on one with all levels of employees. treat each other with the respect you would want.

Good Company for the single person

Driver (Current Employee)

I have been working at Schneider

ProsGood benefits, pay is fair, operating centers are plentiful, helpful staff, good maintance shops located at operating centers, various accounts to choose

Consold equipment, bonus critiria is difficult to obtain, too much sitting around waiting on loads, bad food at operating centers

Advice to Senior Managementtake care of your drivers first. Retetion of good, safe drivers is vital. Don't expect drivers to not idle in 100+ degree weather and don't hold it against them with reduced or denial of bonuses
