    I worked at Schneider

    Pros

Their products have no potential, but failure for their clients. They position themselves for disaster recovery and not collaboration.

    Cons

Amateur management running a sweatshop is not a good combination. Lot's of people have quit over the last year, many who didn't stay for even a year. The products will never be high quality. How can you produce high quality product with no leadership. The products get almost no quality control or quality assurance. They don't understand production. The engineering leadership has no idea what they're doing. The most senior executive don’t share expectations, they just terminate people in private. The GIS professionals/surveyors/engineers aren't interested in doing what's right. They want to charge a lot and give the client nothing in return. The ones who are left are just trying to hang on out of laziness.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Terminate the entire staff including management and hire a new staff that has a clue.

    Pros

Before recession, downsizing, and management turnover, really an amazing and entrepreneurial firm.

    Cons

Family ownership can be a plus and minus.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The company is no longer big enough to be solely run by the numbers. Personal interaction and investment with new and existing employees will bring the spirit back to the company. Take some risks again.

I have been working at Schneider full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Schneider will hire anyone with any or no experience.

    Cons

They first tell you that you can make up to $60000 a year. You start out at 28 cents a mile. You average about 2000 miles a week. At 52 weeks a year...you figure it out. To make that kind of money you would have to work for Schneider for 20 years and I've spoken to drivers that have and they don't make anywhere near that much ($20000 less a year). After you get raises your miles go down. They lose so many drivers before a year is up because they get no miles. They constantly hire new (inexperienced) drivers because they don't want to pay the extra money for experienced drivers. New drivers get a lot of miles at first because they're cheaper to pay than old ones. The dispatchers (DBL's) do not care about your problems or miles. They are taught the things to say to you to keep you quiet. It's really bad. I've almost completed my 1st year with them and I'm looking for another company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get back to what old drivers tell me Schneider used to be. They used to take care of the drivers. Now it seems it's all about making the dollar.

    I worked at Schneider

    Pros

Servant-led organization, focused on people's success (both client and employee), loyal customer base, staff is dedicated to serving the customer, room for advancement, challenging, always has a "never say no" attitude.

    Cons

Many long days and weeks, tough to balance work/personal life. The "never say no" attitude contributes to this. Hit hard by the economic recession.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep embracing and teaching servant leadership. Stay close to the roots of the company, don't grow the canopy too far beyond them. Hire for servant-leadership culture match as much as is possible; in many cases, this is more important than technical abilities.

They keep their word as long as you don't try to pull a con game. Give it to them straight and they will try to work with you.

    Cons

For a family man too much time away from family and friends. They will try to route you through the house if you give them enough time in advance.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

keep up the one on one with all levels of employees. treat each other with the respect you would want.
