I have been working at Schreiber Foods full-time for more than 8 years
Pros – The company being a ESOP is good.
Cons – Hourly workers have little to do with the company.
Advice to Senior Management – Share problems with all workers. They can make it work if we know what needs to be done.

I have been working at Schreiber Foods full-time for less than a year
Pros – Relocation compensation, ability to professionally advance, Employee Stock Ownership Program (ESOP), Responsive Leadership.
Cons – Expected to relocate frequently, very few vacation days, remote locations in low-rent towns, lower salaries, Home Office inexperience with plant operations.
Advice to Senior Management – Start populating Home Office personnel with people that actually know the process. Limit the power of sales force and only agree to production quotas that are achievable and not "best case" scenario. Also, invest in aging facilities.

I worked at Schreiber Foods full-time
Pros – ESOP, good MONEY, job security
Cons – Partners who aren't part of the management team are not treated like partners at all, and they will fill your head with that info at orientation. When you start working here you will find out fast that this company is for the management team only, and rules are different from each person. Supervisors just do what they want, take extra breaks, take long breaks, pretty much do what they want. If your a family person, in which I am "DO NOT WORK HERE"! You will be working weekends and all holidays. But the yellow hats "management" they get time off and extra money to be their on the weekends for a couple of hours, but not anyone else. The management team gets extra money when their are bonuses, and some of those people don't deserve crap! Federal inspectors came into are plant and almost shut it down, but we got stuff fixed in a timely fashion. But guess who's fault that was? its not managements fault, alot of them just sit on their butts in offices. I would like to see inspectors just show up one day, and really see what they find here. I guess I thought that a management team was suppose to help out, but not here. Its a sweat shop in the summers, and nothing is done about it because no one has been injured, and there is air-conditioning in the offices. Partners are expected to work and no chit chatting, but the management team can go around and talk to other yellow hats about golf, exc not work related talk at all. I guess in short words I would rather make alot less money and be happier and sane, treated like an equal, and actually feel like you are wanted at a company. These things do not happen here at all.
Advice to Senior Management – TREAT EVERYONE LIKE EQUALS, YOU AREN'T ABOVE US! All employers make a company the way it is and not just team leader ship team.

I have been working at Schreiber Foods full-time for more than 3 years
Pros – Outstanding business model. Schreiber is an ESOP company. Excellent management training program.
Cons – Must start on 3rd shift but it's a career path. Not just a job.
Advice to Senior Management – Keep your standards.

I worked at Schreiber Foods full-time for more than 8 years
Pros – ESOP, discounted cheese, decent pay
Cons – Total overkill on performance reviews with long forms to complete. I was never told I was doing a good job, only that I needed to improve. People no longer could enjoy doing their same job for the next 5+ yrs. You were expected to move to a new position or the company got rid of you. People were also not getting promoted based on results. Also very few other race/ethic.
Advice to Senior Management – Promote people based on result not who you like or get along with. Performance assessment is not a priority over making sure people are enjoying and doing their work well. Truly take care of your partners and not just put it as a yearly business goal/priority.

I have been working at Schreiber Foods full-time for more than 8 years
Pros – A lot of hours if you like overtime. If you don't like overtime you should get used to overtime. A minimum 40 hour work week even in "slow" season. It is a stable job, although some jobs are mind numbing.
Cons – Human resources sucks, they are snakes and nothing more than that. You can't trust management. It is seven days a week for most of the year. Getting time off is accomplished with nothing short than an act of God - even for earned time off. Most of your coworkers are going to be unreliable, so you can't depend on them either. Nobody trains anyone. Health insurance sucks. No raises, no bonuses unless you make it to management... if you work the floor you will never make it to management.
Advice to Senior Management – Ever heard of promotion from within? Do you ever wonder why managers come in and don't know how to run a plant or lead people? It is usually because they haven't worked in a place like this before. They come in clueless and they leave after a few months still clueless. And lose the "partner" thing... the people who work the floor know that they aren't your "partners". We're sick of hearing it... I did meet the CEO and he seemed like a great guy. I would bet my life savings that he doesn't have the slightest clue as to how floor employees are actually treated though.

I worked at Schreiber Foods
Pros – It's decent pay and a clean working environment, but that's pretty much the only pro that I can think of. If you like figuring stuff out for yourself with production supervisors asking "how soon" about every 5 minutes, you'll do fine.
Cons – There's a rule for everything, and the disciplinary action is swift and severe.... BUT.... you never know all the rules! There isn't even a printed handbook. There is a policy on every least little thing you can think of, but you never learn of them until you run afoul of one. Hey, I'm a rule follower by nature, but I really need to know what the expectations are.
For a company that's been in business as long as they have been, they seem to be slaying the same dragons they've been fighting for years and years. They area a continuous improvement environment in name only. They seem to sit and spin their wheels. The job training is non-existent. Forget about finding someone to help you out with any technical issues. Frustrating.
No tools! They seem to waste money on all kinds of crazy things, but they issue us maintenance mechanics a little Fisher-Price set of tools and expect us to perform miracles on multi-million dollar equipment. The "shop tools" are an even bigger joke. My home garage is more well equipped than the whole maintenance shop.
I never even spoke to my boss until my 5th week there, and only spoke to him two other times in the whole time I worked there. I have no idea who was in charge of our department. I guess we ran it ourselves? Oh, the occasional grumpy and vague complaining email to the whole department from our absentee boss was always a nice surprise. Thanks for the leadership.
Advice to Senior Management – How about some support for the maintenance department so we have the tools we need to maintain the equipment, and the training we need to do so?

I worked at Schreiber Foods
Pros – ESOP company and cheese discounts to employees (partners) in the main office building.
Cons – Wow, where to start? Second company I've worked for (and now 3rd) so I can easily compare these 3 employers. Schreiber has a very bizarre corporate culture with salaries on the low side. A human resources obsessed company with 4 HR (PERF) reviews by my boss per year with weekly status updates on my performance by my boss. HR overkill & I always felt like I had to watch my back due to a lack of fairness from my boss. Personalities seem to get promoted over positive results, which leads to some quirky people in high places. My boss took the credit for my positives and gave me the blame (in writing) for my negatives! The "good" people whom one can trust, especially within senior mgmt., are few and far between. Hours were ok but I was never told I was doing a good job, only that something needed improvement. After 4 years of this I decided I had had enough and found a comparable job with a better salary in a nearby town and am much happier. No more of the boss from hell (others agreed with me) with the constant evaluation of my performance which was very distracting from my being able to do my actual job. HR was of no help in this issue.
Advice to Senior Management – Let partners review their bosses instead of it being a one-way street, you'll be very surprised at how many unhappy partners (employees) are at Schreiber. Do yearly or 2x/year PERF evaluations instead of quarterly, the constant PERF reminders from my boss made life unbearable for me and for many others. Promote people based on results and not on charisma.
