  1. Great Part-Time Job, to Supplement Income

    Pros

This was, for me, a great way to supplement my income from my full-time job on nights and weekends. As a research associate, you're calling random people to complete research surveys. The company provides paid training, and it's not rocket science -- you are basically reading from a script and taking notes about what people say and what they do. The hours are usually consistent and you can really supplement your income if you work during the day. Also, you make your own schedule based on the shifts that are available, so you can choose the days and times you want to work. Right about the time I left because I was able to scale back and cut out this job, they were doing a lot of small incentives for consistent performance or for doing good work -- gift cards, "bonus hours", etc. Also, fellow staff, and many of the managers, are generally very friendly and great colleagues.

    Cons

Not for the feint of heart. As you can imagine, many folks think you are a telemarketer and people will hang up on you. While the hours are consistent, the rate of pay is pretty low, generally speaking. While this was a great way to supplement my full-time income, there's no way I could do this without working during the day. Also, while you are definitely appreciated if you do well, and there are sometimes incentives to reward folks for being consistent and doing work, there is no real career path or way to climb the corporate ladder, as far as I could see. It's basically a solid part-time job, but not much more.

    Advice to Management

It would be great to show those who are part-time but talented a pathway to a career, as an alternative to treating all employees the same. Keep those incentives coming, and make them more substantial for the more talented employees.

    Pros

very flexible schedule. if you love riding trains you'll love this job

    Cons

not too many hours, the company is too lenient with their employers. They cant even enforce dress code. No call no show is a joke. Only way to get fired is to literally get into a fist fight. NO BENEFITS

I have been working at Schulman Ronca part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Only good for people that want extra money.Cant afford to live at pay rate due to the decreased hour limit, and lack of work periods. Most people are friendly.

    Cons

Diminished hours to ONLY 29 per week. Illimination of benefits. No air circulation. Filthy and dusty environment. When is the last time the rug was vacuumed??? Cleaning services limited to bathroom ,( and then only at prime time when we are working.)

    Advice to Management

Reward hard workers, with incentives, and address workers who continuously playing around and not working. These two groups should not be given equal weight. Take aside the ones who don't work and speak to them instead of reprimanding all of us.

I worked at Schulman Ronca part-time

    Pros

Make your own schedule with evening and weekend hours (5 to midnight ,eastern) some management are good people and treat you decent

    Cons

Late hours, limited to 29 hours weekly , most management in charge treat you like you're nothing ,extremely high turnover rate, no benefits except for half a candy bar per shift once in a while...yes I'm serious also this company shows no loyalty to employees ABT SRBI used to have full time interviewers some that worked there over 20 years that had all their benefits taken away last year also cut to part time , if you do make it to staff there's no job security or team effort.

    Advice to Management

Learn to treat people like you want to be treated, just because you're in a higher position doesn't make you better. In any company every employee no matter what position is just as important as the others

I have been working at Schulman Ronca part-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Flexible hours. Make your own schedule allows for good work/family balance. Casual Dress. Easy Job. Freedom to take your break whenever you desire, get a soda, go to bathroom etc.

    Cons

Available hours are feast or famine especially (famine) around the holidays. Terrible management( extremely rude/, verbally abusive and unprofessional especially in the upper channels. Pay is low. Night & weekend schedule only, except for a select few employees and only happens now and then. No room for growth. Those that do advance seem to get fired quickly and are under a lot of pressure and abuse from upper management and executives. No benefits.

    Advice to Management

Treat your employees like people. Have incentives now and then to make work fun. Provide a confidential way for employees to report abusive behavior( even when it's supposed to be confidential, it's not! )Stop showing favoritism.

I worked at Schulman Ronca part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The management there seemed to do their best with what little control they had. Making your own schedule per week was quite nice, and initially the work felt rewarding to some extent. However--and it depends on the individual--there is a breaking point for how long this work takes to go from "interesting" to "creating mental illness."

    Cons

-Easily the most damaging aspect of how the company is for research interviewers is the few breaks that are received, which are extremely necessary for work this repetitive. Eventually you'll realize if you want to work there, and not go crazy, you have to stall the phone and create your own 10 second breaks every other call, or something along those lines. -If you don't have thick skin, you'll quickly be unable to handle hostility from people receiving your calls. -Scheduling yourself is nice, but quickly you'll realize that if you want a large amount of hours, you'll be working hard late-night shifts for very little pay, and few breaks.

    Advice to Management

Provide more breaks. Or pay better. But you probably know these things already, and prefer the present model of business, which means I will never work there ever again.
